Start with pulling the sofa away from the wall to make room for a sofa table, lamps, and some art. Visually, that arrangement will balance the height of the fireplace/tv wall.

Suggestion:

A floor plant (live, would be preferable, but a quality faux will be okay) in the corner by the side of the slider would add more interest.

You can add two or four chairs and a coffee table into the mix.

I'm not sure how you get past the sofa being too large for the space.

I cannot tell which way the rug is positioned but see layout below.

Add a lounge chair on a casual angle so it looks more like it fits.

Add drapery panels to the window.

Is there a color or pattern/style you would look for in chairs?

I have a 9’12 rug with the long side running from wall to fireplace but maybe I need to change that? I also am not sure how I feel about the rug in the apce

Just a thought, something with the backs of the chairs more interesting, these are mine normally side by side facing in.

8x10 rug turned

Your wood flooring has a warm tone to it and so I'm puzzled as to why you would select a rug that has such pinkish undertones to be placed on top of the wood. The room could look so much better with a smaller, different color rug.

I'm suggesting tall, sheer fabric panels at the windows because the room needs something for texture and to make it more interesting. They used to sell 120" sheer panels at IKEA for cheap, but I have not checked recently.
