I love your window treatments and I feel like they deserve the attention of the room, however, the rugs with the different patterns feel like they are competing for attention. Maybe consider solid subtle colors that compliment your window treatments. I say you should paint the TV wall the same orange as the curtains to tie it all together and then apply your floating shelves.

For starters I don't think your decorative pillow color selections works with the colors in your rug. They're off. See below.

I think the window treatment needs to be simplified to something more like this with selecting one color for your drapery panels.

I lowered the position of your TV, and added a different fake tree for the corner that appears more realistic than the tree you have.

Select a rug that works better with your living room rug. See below

Move the dining table to be centered between the two small windows.

Replace the light fixture with something larger that works with the style of your room.

Add drapery panels and woven wood shades on the windows.

You don't need the orange window treatments: ) At all.

I understand your love of the " 10% accent colors. But everything can't be a star, and has no need to be .

Teal and orange? . The orange will ALWAYS advance to your eye, and therefore should be less and the surprise? You will notice that color yet more.

I’m with your hubby - the tv wall is fine. All space does not need decorated.

Going back to the window curtains. I selected the burnt orange color to give the cozy look and add a pop of color from the white furniture. I was not getting that cozy look from the teal curtains as its on cooler side.Can I replace the orange curtains with the beige curtains I already have? Like same 4 beige curtains instead of 2 right now? Or you want to me replace the beige curtains also with simple linen curtains.

I would leave the TV wall alone ( other than lowering it as Beverly suggested ), simplify the window treatments & remove all the figurines ( or ? ) off the window sills & place them elsewhere.

Agree with others on simplicity being key here. Change the window treatments to something g more unified and reduce the pillows and number of accent colours. It also looks like the sofas could come into the rug a bit more. Perhaps art on the dining wall or other walls out of site too. TV wall is fine for me

You asked, I gave you ideas. I'm not going to lie about what I see,. Not stated perfectly or not sugar coated? I don't add sugar coatings for paying clients standing directly in front of me!, In over thirty years? Nobody has ever been unhappy with a result. Which is what matters to those who ARE paying. Most want to love their home, they don't need to love me - I'll be long gone, the room will remain: )

I've fixed an awful lot of those that had a hefty dose of "it's all fine!, "Whatever you want!" in a design process. Those are the words you can get from a good gal pal.

I am not a pro, just a shmo. . I think that the room is a bit of an odd mix of items. I think that the curtains are the number one detractor. If you had a hip, boho vibe going, you might be able to pull them off, but you don't. So really they are not good colors for your room, and the laciness gives them a grandma feel. Right now the curtains own the room, and not in a good way. A tip I would give you if you are looking to buy subtler curtains online, is that 84" and 96" curtains are what most people are looking for. But you can often find the same curtain in 108 or 120" at a savings. Then you can cut and hem them to a length that works for you. If you don't have time to do that, then pay a little more for the length that you actually need.

I agree with other posters that the pillow colors are also off putting. Tone down the colors, think a little more about texture. You might be able to keep the solid color rust one, but the rest have to go. You can measure them and get new covers, or get new pillows entirely. TJMAXX and the Home Goods store are good sources for new pillows at lower prices. If you bring them home and they don't work, you can take them back. I like Jan's color suggestions for the pillows, art, and lamps. Remember that colors have to work with your couch too.

The light and dining room table are the next issue-the table should be centered under that light. It loooks like the light is off to the side of the table. So it looks very odd. The lighting in the room is a bit harsh-dimmers would help, and perhaps the current lights could use slightly warmer bulbs. I think you don't need a chandelier or pendants. right now. I think your money would be better spent on some of these other things.

Plants-I love them ALIVE. If they have died, it is time to remove them. It is always a sad day, but this is how the life cycle works. Plants need attention, not as much as dogs, but certainly more than not at all. You get a feel for what they need, and it's nice that you can look up tips for caring for them on the internet. Still, sometimes we fail them. I went away on vacation for longer than usual, and I lost my palm and one other. My mistake and it won't happen again-live and learn. I let it go, and replaced with a new one. Luckily my other plants were all alive and well, and there are many-definitely too many :)

Onto the tree on the left in your photos, it looks like a heavy, waxy, fake ficus. If it is not, I woud be very surprised, and recommend that you give it a good haircut. However, if it is fake, as I suspect, I would put it to the curb.

Finally something small, and no one else has mentioned, but the clock on the wall by the door is super high, and looks like it came from the Jetson's family. If it has sentimental value, then so be it. But maybe transfer it to a less prominent place.

I hope none of this sounds mean spirited. I think the other posters have given you some good solid advice, even if it feels a bit harsh. I think that it is harder to design a room than most of us think. I think that people who are pros and have been doing it for some time, have an innate sense of color, style, and spatial awareness, as well as the experience that the rest of us don't necessarily have. So I would say, don't take any of it too personally. You are asking for help, because the space feels a bit off to you. Good tips have been offered here, even if they haven't been offered with a spoonful of sugar. In the grand scheme of things, the wonderful thing is that you have a lovely place to live. Now you are just dressing it up, and making it your home.

Some thoughts:

--No to the orange curtains. Do plain white ceiling to floor with bamboo shades. Add bamboo shades to the big windows. This will upgrade and add texture to the room.

--Get pastel patterned sofa pillows in teals and corals like some of those suggested.

--Dining furniture seems too casual for the formal upholstered pieces you have. Consider a longer dining table in dark wood you can center to the windows with a recentering of pendant and maybe upholstered dining chairs. Add a small art work the size of the small windows between the windows. Go for this feeling for your space:

Why bother posting asking for advice if someone ( especially a ”Pro” ) gives you their honest advice? Take it or leave it. I don’t think any of the advice posted on here is ”harsh” or offensive, just an honest assessment.

Go back to your August post and take a good look at what Beverly did with her mock up of your room. Follow her suggestions. If you want plants, please spend money on live ones, in great pots.

As for the window treatment...guessing you were not around in the 60's. It was not a great time for our country in every aspect. Because I was in college at the time, Harvard Square, itself, a mess, your window treatment reflects what I saw during the Hippie time, both in style and color.

Your lovely windows deserve better.
