Choosing paint colour

Anyone who has installed Nuvolette Soot & Snow wallpaper from Cole & Son? If so, what colour paint did you pair it with? I am looking to paint my wainscoting in a white or green, and wallpaper above it, but struggling to find the right colour....

Way to little info. The wallpaper on my screen is not showing green so maybe post a pic of your wallpaper as aclose up here in a comment. Do you have wainscoting in other spaces in the home ? If so what color is it ? I usually like trim to be white to keep things simple . Are you doing a whole room or one wall with wallpaper .? How someone else chose a color really means very little since everything in your space will drive color choice .

This website allows you to try the wallpaper out on your wall to see if it works.

This depends on so many factors - how much light is in your room, whether you are papering or painting your ceiling, the size of your room, the height of the wainscoting, your flooring, and what other furniture or surface materials are in it.

This all matters, as you can see from this pic. The wallpaper works with the white of the sink but not with the tiles. It makes the tiles look too yellow.

The paper works with the wood and white in this home.

But looks horrible with the wood in this home.

Can you post a pic of your room? And tell us more about the shades of green are you considering?

So here is a picture of the room, not sure if it's any good :) Basically I have painted the wainscot already (still need to add the mouldings etc) but my gut feeling is telling me it's not the right colour. The room is south-east facing so gets a fair amount of sunlight.

The ceiling will just stay white (waiting for the electrician to install some spotlights) and I'll add coving to it. The room is 235 cm high and the wainscot is 90cm high. Flooring is engineered oak. I actually would prefer a nice white/neutral on the bottom half, but white isn't just white I've come to realise.

I took the wallpaper it to a paint shop and they scanned the bacground of it with a tool and the paint colour they recommended was the one I've used on the wainscot already....

Colors can look different from screen to screen but from what I can see, I think your gut is right. The paint color seems too warm and yellow based. I think you want a white with a cool undertone. You're right - what is not just white. It is such a tricky color.

I'd wait to test any paint colors until after the electrician has installed your new lighting. That will change the way the wallpaper and paint colors look.

Yeah, agreed, too warm was my thoughts too, and with the warm oak flooring it just doesn't work. I shall wait for the electrician, hopefully that will give me a better idea of what colour to use. But it's just so difficult to get the right shade of white.....

@BeverlyFLADeziner, I'm not seeing the function to do a virtual mock up on a photo on the Decorator's Best website? Is that only for those with trade accounts?

I've purchased samples from them, so being able to do the mock-ups would be helpful.

edit: Never mind! It looks like they don't have it for all wallpapers, so it wasn't showing for the ones I was looking at.

Waht space is this , it looks really skinny maybe a bit mor info about that . Yes you wait for lighting before choosing wall color always

I think it looks skinnier than it is, it's 2 meters wide by 3,5 meters long. It's going to be my office in the end :)

Do you have the wallpaper? Does it match the paint on the wainscoting? Right now it looks good with the flooring but the white on top is not going to remain and that is what is making things look 'off'

Have you considered going with a darker gray on the wainscoting? The darker gray would work well with the floor and be a nice ground for the wallpaper.

As for a white, a true white would work...B.M. Chantilly Lace., virtually no undertone, and would blend right in with the whites in the clouds. Use satin finish for the trim, and matte for the ceiling.

Window treatment? Wood blinds in the color of the floor.

Bring the blue in with furniture...you said an office?

This color, against the darker gray wainscoting.

And, yes, gray is still around, still gorgeous, with the myriad of undertones, despite nay sayers.

I like Judy's idea of a darker gray on the wainscoting and the trim. It would look very dramatic and show off the paper better than white. I've always loved that paper!

Maybe someone could do a mock up for you.

I did dark gray trim in this office with light gray grasscloth. Client loves it!
