Oh, that is weird. Did they offer an explanation for how it happened? Here it is bitterly cold and it wouldn't surprise me if lines snapped due to that, but not sure how far north you are?

I’ve lived through two tornadoes, so have seen lines down and sparking. Very scary, but the cause was clear. I’m curious what happened to your lines!

one time only half the lights went out in my mom’s house. It was very odd, but the electric company came out and fixed it. I called an electrician first but they said it sounded like something for the power company, not them.

I get brownouts from time to time. I have a Ting and it sends a message.

Happened to our internet and to the power to the house behind us in the alley. Squirrels…..little furry bas….ds!

We lived in an area with huge trees. Our street had buried lines but the street at the corner did not. Every few months a branch would fall off and break a line and we would lose power. We'd usually hear a bang.
I guess repair was cheaper than trimming?

Wow.. what a start to your day! The line break is very strange. It doesnt seem like damage a squirrel or bird would cause .. but who knows?

My power has been going on/off the last hour. Nothing of any concern ... ust enough to be irritating.

I once hard a huge bang, the lights on every house on the street went to a dim brown, and a fried squirrel was on the ground beneath a transformer on an electric pole.

Righting after posting here my power went out! Huge winds at the moment. The generator came on but the power came back for now.

We had alerts last night warning that from 1 am Friday until 1 am Saturday high winds and rain would be likely. The rain has finally stopped, and the winds have not been too bad. The sun came out for a bit. I was at my daughter's house ( 15 miles away) and she was saying that we've had just about every season of weather in the last 3 hours.

Let's hope for calm.

Winds were very strong here last night. I noticed when I ran errands this morning that there were Christmas decorations scattered all over the place.

The #2 guy in the power company lived 2 doors down from our old house. Our power was never out for long. I don’t know if there were a correlation or not. 😉

I have never had that happen Sue, but I did have a ground wire electrocute my appliances in my home. To add to the madness, it was July and I was due with my second child in August. Moral of the story, never take away AC from a pregnant woman in the summer! Momma bear was grizzly. Repair men were at my home that day and appliances got replaced in a reasonable time. All I really was concerned about was the AC. They were window units, so easy replacement.

I have 3 tree trucks sitting on my road just waiting, I told my DH to invite them in for supper. We’re actually hosting a casual party tonight - a baked potato bar.

It might be a good idea to check your surge protectors and make sure the surge protection is still working. Newer or better models will have a light indicating they are still working (not just that power is on). If they are older ones that don't, I'd replace them - not urgently but as convenient and while you are thinking about it. I had a sewing machine I plugged into a surge protector, but it dies when the motherboard quit working. The tech told me the most likely explanation was a power surge, so either it got plugged in and left without the surge protector, which was less likely because it sat in front of the outlet, or the surge protector had quit working. They can take a hit and protect everything but be left defenseless the next time there is a power surge, so without an indicator light, you might never know.

Baked potato bar sounds good. Both sons have events tonight, so it's just DH and me for a bday dinner and I'm thinking anything I can eat on the sofa sounds good. Cookie party was yesterday and a poinsettia run made this morning. It is sunny and a little cooker after grey and damp the last couple of days. Grateful for that. You folks stay warm and safe in the winds and cold.

Sueb, that must have been scary. It seems very strange that 2 of the 3 lines in that twisted cable look severed and the other is not. A live electrical wire that was knocked down by a fallen tree in a very windy rain storm was the cause of the fire that took out our condo building at the lake.

It has gotten crazy windy here in central NJ in the last couple of hours. And got a Nixle alert to avoid specific roads due to down telephone poles.

Our lines are underground in my area so hoping we don't lose power.

This weather is crazy. Crazy cold and 6 inches of snow on Sunday. 60, rainy and the snow is all gone today.

DH got very excited to see a Coopers hawk in our back yard yesterday. Wonder if he chewed the wires? (The hawk, not DH.) In any case, I will admit I felt good about the fire dept looking over all our wiring in the basement and not seeing any issues there!

Ded - I really like my Ting - not just the brownout alerts but when it reports a power loss it includes how many other Tings in the area are also experiencing a loss. We have generators at both places so we still have power but I find it helpful to know if how wide of an area has lost electricity.

We had high winds yesterday and even more last night. I had trouble keeping my shopping cart straight while pushing it through the parking lot. I'm now watching the local Philadelphia news and there were several reports about huge trees coming down on homes and cars.

We had our house hit by lightening. DH was in the garage and saw a HUGE ball of light flash in the middle of the garage. I was in the great room and there was a loud BANG! The TV blew up! We ended up replacing ALL the TV's, DVD players, Stereo receiver, Land-line phone. The cell phones reset when turned off, then back on. We had surge protectors on the frig, stove & dishwasher. After THAT...we put surge protection in the electric panel.
