Need Help for my dining room

Need Help with changing up our dining room. We just moved and some furniture was left by the previous owners. I want to swap out the couch for a narrow day bed (since its in a small nook) so some ideas would be great. No more than 40" Deep but up to 90"W not really sure on height but would be cool to use it as additional dining room seating if needed.

The small display cabinet is going to be moved (with the flowers on top) because I think with a daybed and table and chairs I don't want to have too much furniture!

Also I had the idea to paint the bottom of the table a white/ cream/ antique white and table rim - but leave the table top the same oak(If I could lighten oak a tad I would but I'm not sure if that's possible - never done it before). The thing is I need chairs! So ideas for chairs would be great. I like the idea of having fabric chairs but don't want pattern since the rug has enough going on!

The one wall I wanted to take out the wall hutch and put up the painting. I want to get a narrow buffet to hide all the plates - not really needed because we already have a hutch in the corner (might end up selling it though).

So...Help and pictures of your ideas would be great!

Do you have a foyer large enough for that round table? It would make a wonderful foyer table. Here are some pix of what I'd consider doing with your space.

I see where you want to go here, and love the pics posted above. However, what sort of budget are you looking at? Because the best way to get this look is definitely with the built-in bench, but it will cost. And, by orienting everything closer to the window, you will also need to move the chandelier. The cheapest way to do this is to use a swag to moe it over, and you could cover the chain with cloth to make it all look a little better. I have seen this occasionally pics, but I'm not sure I like the look. Even if you pay to have the electrical done and patch up the ceiling in the former spot of the chandelier, I think things might end up looking a little off a lance anyway because it looks like such a big room.

My suggestion would be to run two identical consoles or low buffets along the window, then have a settee on that side of your table. This keeps everything centred under the chandelier, but gives you the settee, or bench, seating. Believe me, the settee will e the most coveted spot at family dinners! I re-purposed an old love seat as a DR settee, and the adult kids and their fiancées/boyfriends all call dibs on that thing!

Deco some great pics of dining room. It's a dining rm, why do you want so much furn is this your only living space? Center table under light. Add 4 fabric skirt chairs around table. Get in blue tones, darker than rug. Navy would work. A big bowl in red fill with green apples. Remove all things from walls ad a sideboard on wall where wall item is center and add a big gold tone sunburst mirror 45" hang 6" above top. Go roman shades on windows. In a navy blue. Paint a soft blue gray like a revere pewter by Benjamin Moore. Trim leave white.

Remove those panels on door, not needed.

On slider add panels on each end only floor to ceiling in navy. With a white border.

Add that art on floor to that wall. remove glass item. Center and hang 12" above chair rail. Table is fine if you want to do anything just stain it darker, but no paint it will chip.

More ideas. Also, in fourth pic, this is actually 2 Ikea Malm dressers pushed together and DIYed using brass drawer pulls to form the Greek key pattern. I also like the idea of placing two lamps on the console in the window. This will look really nice behind the settee, and definitely create added ambience - just make sure the lamps are on tri-lights so they can be dimmed.

You can paint the pedestal of the table, then apply 2 - 3 coats of clear poly to protect the paint finish.

Light should be lower. There are some really nice new ones out there. Something that makes a statement. Spend money on that. Hang 36" from table top. The one there is high. Stay away from country look go more rustic. Even staining table a blue gray, weathered look. Do this by lightly sanding edges and top.

Karmore, great chairs. These would work with rug. Can use pattern with pattern as long as in same color tone. Like those are. But the chair is what I was talking about.

The blue and white stripe. Would add interest to room. Others above too modern. For table. If you want could go a new rectangle table it would run across room then add same chairs . Get the reclaimed look that is so popular now, for table 60" Would fill room nicely. You could go high back wing chairs for end of rectangle table and 2 side chairs on each side in the stripe.

Thank you all so much! We just moved so some of the furniture was already here. I just got the round table because I've always wanted one. I want to paint the base white but hubby likes it the way it already looks.
The patio windows already have blinds in them - Pella.

Karen - budget....weelll...lol if it costs too much I can make it :) I really like your ideas and thanks for sharing photos. I really like the chairs. What do you think of the chairs I attached?

Travis - We are going to move the light so it is in the center of the room. I don't like the chandelier the previous homeowners left it. The panels are temporary for when we have visitors stay over. We are going to get double french doors between the living room and dining room (not really shown).
I want 4 fabric chairs, but not fabric skirt chairs - well maybe. I also want 2 more for when the tables extended perhaps different colour to add some whimsy.

Scotch, all your ideas are great! Just a few things to keep in mind when making decisions: first, of all the chairs, any of them could work and, yes, it's very much on trend to mismatch. I don't like to go overboard with the idea, but if you do the fabric chairs in pic one, for example, as the majority of your chairs, then maybe pick two extras that are also upholstered AND have arms for the ends. If you did several of the ones in first pic, and a couple of the ones in second pic, then I think it's too same say, if you know what I mean. Travis interiors, maybe you can explain this better than me? Then with the chairs in the third pic, if you wanted to mix those with something else, you would want to mix with something kind of European or traditional. I guess what I'm saying is its not as easy as looks. But some of it could be just me. Really study any pics you see of this type of mix and match and see if you can figure out how the chairs are similar and how they're different. I think a very safe way to go is some chairs have arms and some don't. But, really, all your choices are lovely - just watch how you mix them.

With the daybed, I like the idea of what you want to do, but in reality using them for extra seating may not work. Basically, whoever sits there will not have back support. And you have to make sure the height of the seat will work at a table, even taking into account the softness of the seat and how much it sags. It is a nice long, space, though, and a daybed would just totally invite you to sit down with a cup of coffee (wine?) and your iPad! Maybe put a daybed there, but don't plan to use it for able seating. In which case wood chairs might look better around the sides of the table, and just do upholstered at the ends. I hope I haven't thoroughly confused you! Please keep posting your own ideas and pics, especially once you start shopping and can show some "after" pics!

Karen More - Thank you! I totally understand what you mean with the chairs. I was thinking about that myself with the daybed using it for sitting with no support - if I was going to do that then I really think I should get hubby (he doesn't know yet and he is looking over my shoulder reading this haha) to build in a seating area with a pull out trundle underneath for sleeping :D so many ideas this is really fun.
I think I am going to get tufted chairs for the dining room I really like the look of them - classic.
please look at what I did in my bedroom on my profile. I still have to get a headboard but I love what i've done so far :) I appreciate you taking time out to help me!
    Thanks again.

Samantha, I just had a look at your bedroom pics and it all came together beautifully! I love how you were able to sneak in some decidedly feminine touches, but keep it looking neutral enough that your hubby won't complain! Very clever! I couldn't enlarge the one painting of the dancers, but it looked a bit like this old painting I had bought at a thrift shop years ago which, I think, was a copy of a famous Renoir painting. At the time, it completely captured my fancy - the emotion of the young man dancing with this girl he longed for...mmm...perfect for a bedroom! Anyway, I digress. You have a beautiful home there, and I can tell you are quite sure about your style, and that you have great taste and just need to bounce ideas off someone once in awhile. So, again I ask, please post those after pics - and tufted chairs will be divine!

So is this the same painting? It's called Dance At Bougival.
Karemore - I think it's Dance In The CIty. And yes you are so right...I'm actually laughing to myself...about the little feminine touches hubby said he didn't want it all in his face lol! Have to think about him here too. I bounce a few ideas from him now and then and he actually surprises me! I will definitely put after pics up might be a couple of weeks. I think I know what I want now. I like the idea of roman blinds (have them in the bedroom too) so will do that too. I have to work on that table today!
