That looks like a nice space for a couple of comfy swivel club chairs that coordinate color & style wise the counter stools & a small table & lamp to create a reading space to sit while monitoring something cooking in kitchen or just have someone sit & visit with the cook. Art could be improved with an arrangement of smaller & more colorful pieces nicely framed. Before spending $$ on furniture, shop your own home for chairs etc. Take out the dining table & place chairs in the spot to see how they feel size wise. I’d coordinate the lamp with the hanging lights over the counter too.

As KW said. Borrow a couple comfy chairs from elsewhere in the house to see how they work. If you are accustomed to putting backpacks there, you'll need a new drop spot, perhaps the same chairs or sturdy hooks on the wall.

A nice place for a glass of wine while you get ready for dinner, or morning coffee...

A small rug will help define the space. A reading floor lamp will add layers of lighting. Even a small martini table next to each chair will provide aspace for whatever you are drinking.

I agree. Try out chairs from other places in your home to see what sizes work.
