You could just paint the rail and the spindles black and see if that is better . The spindles are really the issue so maybe check out replacements . Are the spindles anywhere else or just there ? If just there you could do a drywall cover for the spindles so it would look like a pony wall.

Cheapest easiest option - fold a nice throw over the railing. Your eye will go to the throw and away from the shape of the rails. It doesn't need to cover the whole railing, just a third or two thirds of it.

Does this rail match a staircase? If you changed it would it look like the redheaded stepchild?
Paint is always an option but not if it’s the only piece painted white-black-or-purple.
