Nelson’s Southern Roses

When an order is placed online, can you choose a shipment date? Also, roses that are marked SOLD OUT, is that for all of 2026?

    Hi

I ordered 2 roses from them this Fall . They ship on Mondays only . I don't think you can choose the shipping date online unless you call them . Sold out roses may come available again in March , you have to ask them . My roses were delayed , I had to send several emails before they shipped them .

Pink Rose, thank you! I started to place an order, but didn’t see a shipping date I could pick.

I think they will ship immediately . Maybe give them a call or email them first to hold the roses till ready for your zone ?

Oh goody!! I didnt realize Nelsons was selling directly. I used to be able to get their grafted Fortuniana Roses at a nursery by my old house but I haven't found any nurseries out here that carry them. I hope they get a restock this spring. There is several I would love to get grafted on Fort.

Ooh, they have some wonderful varieties!! KentuckyRose - have you found that fortuniana does Ok in your zone over the winter? We're now officially zone 6 and it's a balmy 53 today and has been last week and will be for the upcoming forecast. Except for a dip into the single digits in December (with snow cover so roses were protected) it has been basically shirtsleeves weather all winter so far.

I can plant some fortuniana roses in my virtual zone 7 pocket that I can winter protect easier from the fluctuating weather in winter. I'm hoping to give at least one rose a try and see how it goes from there.

Glad to see they ship and I might be able to pick a March shipping date.

Nippstress, I lose some and first few years I try to mulch around for winter. Some varieties I can only get on fort. This winter I didn’t winterize, but didn’t get any new fort.

Thank you Pink Rose! Is this the site you guys are using? I'm just happy I can order them online. Other fortunia rooted rose websites involve a lot of emailing back and forth to order etc. I like to see whats in stock and just order online lol. I like the fort roses because they grow large here and the animals (wild & domestic) can't decimate them so easily.

Thanks for the input Kentucky Rose. I agree that I'd only order varieties I can't get otherwise and do routine protections. It's worth trying with Juicy Terrazza this year and see about others when they become available.

Pink Rose, I was intrigued with the picture of Burlesque on the website, thinking that rose may have possibilities. Since you ordered it, what can you tell me about that beautiful rose?

Check out foxviewroses.com. They have Nelson's Roses in the classic blue 3 gallon pots. I ordered 3 and they all came very healthy.

Has anyone here attempted to graft fortuniana roses? It's my goal to learn this year and am looking for any tips I can gather. Right now, I'm studying videos by Malcolm Manners on youtube as meticulously as possible.

    Kentucky Rose

I bought Burlesque a couple of months ago . It is growing nicely although it has not bloomed yet . I think it is a shrub , has started to throw long canes .

Pink Rose, thank you! I was hoping it was a cut rose. Do you know anything about Magic Times?

    Kentucky rose

I like Magic Times rose a lot . It gets some black spot but blooms continuously . The blooms are beautiful but no fragrance to my nose . Medium thorny bush .

Pink Rose, Would Magic Times be a good cut rose?

    Kentucky rose

It can be a good cut rose . Because it has stiff petals and unfolds slowly. The only thing is that is does not have extra long stems . Some times it blooms in clusters.
