Living room Artwork ideas

Could this print color and frame gold frame work in my space? I’m looking add more color to the room with prints. Open to suggestions!! Yes I removed some of the pillows and will lighten the ottoman to a neutral but for prints, should I do a dark frame or does gold work? I would put this behind lamp on one side of wall (sm window side).

Ok Patricia! Understood! I’ll have to pull it together - working all week but will see what I can do his week to get pics and measurements over. The sofa is staying for now but will definitely do a sofa and chairs second time around.

  • last month

I would do a pair of medium size pieces flanking the window.

Patricia Collwell - here are the measurements.

The long wall where the tree was (under AC) is 54x78.

    The sofa corner walls are:
    55x61 (to top of sofa)
    36x61 (to top of sofa)

I see the ottoman is super dark and will look for a light ottoman.

The frame of your artwork is a darker burnished gold. IMO the frame and the artwork should both work pretty well in your interior.

The art piece is attractive, but there is nothing to relate it to other decor elements in the room. Other elements could include items picking up color from the art. Blue glass vase on coffee table, throw pillows picking up the colors, Drapery panels on the windows, a rug with some soft shading of the colors. Do not hang art behind sofa or behind the lamp - maybe an arched lamp for reading and ambient light. Keep working on it and share your ideas in this space. I must say your tree is very pretty and was the first thing that drew my eye to your post, the 2nd was the slightly askew lamp. I thought at first your pretty dog was a giant cat! 😳

I returned the art. I thought it had too much blue for this room but open to all suggestions.

I would add Roman shades to your windows to add color, possibly with a print. Maybe a narrow sofa table behind one of the sofas with two lamps to give you layered lighting instead of the floor lamp. Then art and pillows to carry the colors through the room.

I love the ideas but as of now, I am changing the silhouettes to possibly plantation shutters due to my dog destroying the large window silhouette but Roman shades are a nice idea too. I could not put a sofa table behind the couch. He would use it to get closer to the window.

I couldn't live with plantation shutters and have permanent "bars" on my windows.

Yes, I know they can be swung open, but not in every location. OP won't be able to open them, because her sofas will be in the way.

You have a nice view and I wouldn't want it blocked with "bars" during the day.

I don't think the ottoman is too dark...it ties in to the wood pieces. Maybe position a throw on it. I would remove the tray to make room for feet. Use the throw to keep them warm.

I agree you need some color, use color in throw/ throw pillows pulled from the art. So the blue in the art have would worked. But I feel large art would feel crammed.

    Apollo is beautiful!

    Adorable!!

    Rough sketch of my concept.

    Should the tree stay ?

  • last month

I pulled the tree out for holiday tree. I do like it but would a print look better?

  • last month

I like the plant…(tree)…adds a curved element and organic lines…prints are just more squares. Art doesn’t need to match the room…btw…though people can prefer that, it really isn’t necessary. (Art teacher here). Pick something you LOVE…you can always get the accessories to tie it in to the room if you need that visually.

  • last month

Personally I don’t think your room needs a lot of work. Houzz peeps are very good at spending other people’s money 🤣😉Pick the art that you like, pick a few accessories to tie it together.

The tree and a print on left side then lamp and art on right flanking the bank of windows. Perhaps a colored shade on the lamp vs the white shade? New window dressing and pillows bringing the colors around and on the ottoman as well. Large colored tray? Apollo is adorable! I certainly understand about our pets destroying things 😂 but what do ya do 💗

I like the big tree it looks nice and if it's real it's really doing nice there

What Alice said… I wouldn’t have the same thing on the right, and the left of the window. I like the idea of a print on the left with the tree and then a larger piece of artwork on the right. Everything doesn’t have to be symmetrical! It might be nice to have the two pieces related thematically. It looks like you like landscapes?

This print really caught my eye but chatgbt made it look larger but is this too much for this space?

Beautiful piece but the utility box is making it feel cramped to me. Also too low on the wall.

I like Alice and liasch's idea to flank the windows with art...seems to draw the eye away from the unit. Can you find two pieces you like and have AI show us that?

Can you tape the actual size on the wall? Chat also made it square which it is not.

I snatched it and on way home. It was too pretty to pass up. Can always return.

I like that art! The colors really work

I think that print is kind of big but maybe it's okay I think if you put a plant on the edge of it by the light switch or something like that that would really work good with that bird and if you want the art to show real good and up light on the floor by the couch shining up on the art would be lovely with the plant beside it

I think it looks a bit big for the space.

    Here is the actual pic

I like the print you chose. the colors are pretty. Perhaps you could find a few accent pillows to pull in some of the darker and warmer tones to add some interest to the sofa.

It might work it’s hard to tell. The difficulty will be in figuring out what to balance it with on the other side. My son recently commented that he is thinking of putting a display of Japanese fans on his wall. Given that this is an Asian print, it would be nice to complement it with something in a similar theme on the other side. A kimono? A series of prints by Hiroshige? Metal bird art?

That is very pretty Colleen. It is large but….. with that said large enough to have a tall plant on the left of it in the corner even though it hides a portion of it would look great imo. Yes, then the right side! Asian it is so right side theme wise to go with. Out of its packaging will make a nice difference as well.

It does seem large - I’ll sit with it a day or two to decide and for the plant, would be on the small side? Nothing like what I had, I’m assuming which would be too big. I didn’t realize it’s an Asian print.

You would still see the beautiful bird and colors. I can see although the pot getting in the walkway? Did it? Looking back now 😊

Yes it was pretty leafy big. Try it!

There is a dog gate so not sure it could work but I’ll try.

Hmm, it might be a drop big. Do you like the tree in the room? What if you tried it over your bench and brought the tree back. It seems the tree might cover it too much there because you have the walkway.

I don’t want to move the mirror but yes it would fit that wall well.

I am guessing… as I am an art college graduate with a background in Asian art. I don’t know the exact history of this image…but the style is definitely reminiscent of Japanese (or possibly Chinese) but more likely Japanese traditional decorative papers and fabrics.

Just thinking about the tree there now again? If it’s real (?) the heater and air above may not treat it well. And you did mention the dog gate, I see it in a previous photo. Might be too much for that pass through. Perhaps your floor lamp with the art there at the left? Have another shade as compliments the art. If you are able, carefully taking the art out of the package. Keeping the package if you do in fact want to return it, but it is a beautiful piece!

    This is a pretty shade

    Still buying and returning…

I had a problem here with one window wall. It just behooved me to do both the sides. Like should they match? Does it matter? I’m super symmetrical minded. I ended up with one large on one side and two vertical with a lamp on the other. My style is different and not as beautiful an outcome that you’ll have but I finally got that wall to where I was happy. Where the one large art piece hangs is where our little tv is, so I had that handicap to begin with. Let me see if I can post a picture. You’re finding some really pretty art there. I think the idea is to either have color coordinated or subject coordination to make it work? May frames that compliment each other?

Well it’s not as pretty when I try to show and tell but maybe you see :) I navigate by vintage floral type art lol

Alice that works and looks great! I may find one larger piece and two small for opposite wall. Thanks 😊

Love the bird arts! Too heavy other frame.

Thanks I like them too but think they need be bigger. These look too narrow having one on each wall. Yes the other frame appears heavy to me too. I’m learning.

I love the big art! Maybe try switching it with the mirror.

I kind of think you could go with just the big plant under the ac thing. Anything else kind of brings attention to it.

Maybe lamp & plant under AC. Art where lamp is currently?

Was curious where a floor lamp serves you better in that space?
