Kitchen appliance selection help!

last month
last modified: last month

We have a small kitchen and the range and fridge we purchased on sale 7 years ago when we moved in (and had to spread our money out over a lot of deferred maintenance) are giving out. We have a medium to low budget - under $2000/appliance and would like to make choices that have some chance of lasting at least 10 years - tough call these days!

Replacing the gas range is priority because the oven ignition failed recently and we have limped through holidays on our air fryer and stovetop because instead of repairing we plan to switch to an induction range. Current range is a samsung freestanding 30” wide, I believe either freestanding or slide in would work in our space, and inductiin seems exclusively slide in.

I ordered the LG LSIL6334XE induction range from Costco because there was a promotion expiring dec 31 and my research so far in consumer reports etc pointed to this one as the best bet. I wanted to order from costco to ensure we have the 90 day free return/exchange, but they do have limited models so i chose a later delivery date to give me time to consider. Does anyone have feedback on this one for longevity and basic usability? We cook daily on the stovetop things like soups, stir fry, pasta but are not gourmet chefs, and we use the oven very little relatively. I am a bit concerned about the buzzing sound complaints about induction in general but plan to use heavy cookware and it seems not really related to the range itself, but if theres a range that is particularly known for this I’d like to avoid. This model has knobs for the stovetop and I've read the oven control panel is hard to read - but the app can control the oven so I'm less concerned about that vs the entirely touch control and no backlight panel on the entry level LG induction range.

The other 2 I was considering are the GE PHS700AYFS (not available at Costco - so likely locked in once delivered) and the Frigidaire Gallery GCFE3060BF (available at Costco).

I could still cancel this order and make another choice, so I thought I’d check here for some input first, though I think I got an excellent price on this model!

Our current fridge is a 30” wide (space constraint) and 32” deep without handle whirlpool WRF560SEYM with french door, through door water (that we do not use) and bottom freezer. The defrost seems to be giving out, we get ice buildup under the freezer (have fully defrosted and cleaned it and it came back) which periodically melts and makes a puddle on tbe floor. It’s also very loud always has been and getting worse as the defrost components fail. there may be some discounts still available if we purchase 2 appliances at once, otherwise we will just wait for this one to die and replace it because it’s a simple swap out unlike the gas to induction switch.

So for now or near future, what brands would you recommend for a 30” wide fridge that is A) quiet! (right beside living room) B) reliable C) prefer not top freezer for convenience but if it’s quieter and more reliable maybe we’d go that route, no other features wanted especially not through-the-door dispensers or ice makers.

Thanks for the input on these selections!
