where does this lamp live and what is that decor like?

I’ve perusing lamps today for a sideboard I haven’t even bought yet.

I saw a few lamps wuth these scallops.

The color of the lamp is so pretty. So where are you going to place it?

It's probably going to go in our pantry which is a walk-thru from our back entry to our kitchen - a main thoroughfare. There's no real decor to speak of, the wall to the left is a bank of pantry cabinets. I'll either tuck it back in that corner or place it in front of the outlet.

eld that's a cute shade but I think it would swallow the lamp and there is only one size.

Still not sure how to determine the best shade height and diameter.

Sweet lamp, love the color. Find .a fun handmade shade on Etsy. There are so many talented people there. If you decide to go the other direction, I would look at linen shades.

ETA: I had shades made for a pair of 1950s lamps my parents owned for our bunk room. Fairly easy, quicker than I expected. Jack of all Shades They also do COM shades.

I love your counter! I was going to suggest a block print but I think most will look too twee in that spot.

If you order from somewhere like this, Etsy, Pooky, Lamps Plus, etc, they should be able to tell you what sizes would work. I‘ve worked with both Lamps Plus and Etsy buying shades for old lamps and they were a big help.

I really like the idea of a fun print like Ikat, block, etc.

I don’t think there are any in your size, but it might give pattern/color ideas for if you use Etsy or other sites for custom made.

If you’re wanting something more inexpensive and local, and easier to experiment with and return, maybe browse some stores in person or even A-zon.

Found a couple of good sources for correct shade sizing. Based on that and the limit of height under the cabinets, I need a shade that is 9-10" diameter on the bottom and no more than 8" high. There are choices in that range, mostly empire shape either pleated or not but so far the fabrics are not speaking to me. Found one woven corset shape which is different and speaks to my style and the woven tray I keep on the counter but not sure the shape works with the lamp.

@mtnrdredux_gw I'm combing through the shades at Pooky but not finding fabric that works or at least that I think will work. Love the fabrics on their own but not with the lamp. This is the one I keep going back to but too sweet

@Allison0704 I found a candlewicking shade on Etsy that would work if this lamp were in a bedroom but not for a pantry. Still looking..... surely something will jump out to me!

DLM, I really like the two you posted! Much better than my examples. :)

I've lost count of how many picture I've taken trying to show the color of the lamp - it always comes out too blue no matter the lighting but it's more green.

At any rate.... the lamp details are sweet and a scalloped shade could work - I like the subtle scallop from Pooky but not the fabric options. I love this lamp but my taste is more simple so maybe I'm trying to make something work that just doesn't. I like detail and texture but not flounce IYKWIM. This is the art that hangs there - fabric with stitch-work which is the kind of detail that speaks to me, not ruffles so much. Maybe the woven shade could work ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I like the rattan one

I like this color rattan a bit better. Avail in various shapes and sizes.

They also come with a stripe/border

@mtnrdredux_gw I agree on the color - I was already thinking of ways to 'age' the rattan corset one.

I like the dark-ish rattan, too. Google "scalloped rattan lamp shade" and there are many options.

What may look like lots of options really isn't unfortunately. It feels a bit like Goldilocks - this one is too big, that one is too small, this one you have to buy the lamp to get the shade or that one is perfect but >$300 thank-you-very-much-but-I-don't-think-so! A couple are the right size so I'll order once I make sure of returns and hopefully find a fit. Thanks all for the help!

If you really want a woven one and need a specific size or shape, then i can weave it for you, but in this case I’d want to weave it on the correct size wire frame.

That's really sweet party_music - unfortunately I don't have an existing shade so no frame but I have some options and should find a fit. Not 100% sold on woven and still checking fabric options too.

Cute little lamp DLM and I hope you find just the right shade. That can make all the difference in upping the look. I have 4 (or 6 if I really want to get into it) lamps that need new shades. There's a great lamp and shade store about 40 minutes from here and I may just load all my lamps into the car and take a drive.

I really like your framed fabric piece though.

@DLM2000-GW, I understand. As far as weaving it goes, it is only top part of the wire frame that’s required to attach the shade to the lamp properly. :)

I like the basket/wicker shades too - that was the first thought I had.

@Kitch4me that's fabulous! I actually have a plain shade, empire not drum in one of my carts with some kind of update in mind. I have 3 carts going and 2 of them have multiple shades - this could be a problem! Found a shade I like, perfect size, with a painterly floral/leaf design but the colors are off. I may paint over it - very inexpensive if it's a flop.

@NiCOZ5 I've checked in the past and our resales are very it or miss for shades but I haven't checked Home Good/TJMaxx - maybe tomorrow before I place these orders.

Ballard has a shade that could work but their shipping is high, not refundable (which bugs me) and is why I rarely buy from them unless I'm 100% certain.

If you feel like getting crafty, there are lots of DIY pleated lampshades available online. Here is one:

I think you need to take this lamp on a shopping trip to try on various shapes to determine which size and shape looks best. Take pictures. As mentioned, Home Goods has some lampshades, but also check Lowes/Home Depot and At Home. Target has some, but I think theirs do not accommodate a harp. After you have figured out the size, then move on to colors.

@ratherbesewing that is really inspirational! Thanks for the link. As you say, some places only carry Uno style shades which sit on top of socket collar, not Spider which sit on top of the harp. A harp can be removed and an Uno style accommodated if I find a shade I like in that style. But you're right, the smart thing to do is try for size/shape/material in person.

So they make wicker shades with scallops - this is @ Wayfair...

carolb that's one of the shades I've looked at but sadly it's too large for this lamp.

That's too bad - it would look nice with the blue, I think.

P.S. I don't see it in previous replies - what size do you need? Target has one in a smaller size than the Wayfair offering, I think. I did a reverse image search and found a number of smaller ones
