Balusters ,. trim and risers WHITE. Stain on newel posts and handrail only. That said ? Not loving the builder grade colonial look of it...: ) but a redo would be pricey.

Right now as is your staircase is cohesive with the rest of your home, it give you a hit of your cabinetry and your trim out. I would not mess with that cohesive look, unless you replace the balusters. The white doesn't work. Seems like a lot of money for what? You are covering it all up with carpet???

Every thing I have read said that stairs should match the color of your floor. I am not a fan of the orange wood in that room and it doesn't match the rest of the wood in that room.

I like stairs to match th flooring at the base of tem so in your case like the new floors . I would do a rumnner only if a must and if budget allows a much simpler spindle design or at least painted a darker color .
