OLLD 9/17

Good morning, lovelies. Today is the last day of ladies league golf, I can't believe it's over already We have a 9 hole shotgun today and a banquet. Summer just went by so quickly. Here's a pretty flower though to brighten everyone's day.

What's on the agenda?

Morning Kimdee how are you today.
I am well, Angela thanks, how are you? What's up today? Counting down the days until the hooker arrives?
It is starting to be depressing around here. I remember when people were complaining because the thread were too long but now it is sad because no one comes. People have changed names and are even posting elsewhere so sad to say it is almost like the OLLD will disappear. Well that is my two cents. Woo sah but at least I wont get yelled at.

chin up angela. olld isn't going away. seems every time i start to post lately, the phone rings or contractor has a question or something. maybe we need to throw out more topics to improve participation?
i'll start with a question to anyone with some smarts on this subject:

    HEATED BATHROOM FLOOR

starting remodel of my MB tomorrow. i want heated floors and a heated shower bench.my contractore hasn't done this and i know he can figure it out but i thought i'd ask on here for any words of wisdom?

I've been crazy busy too for the last couple of weeks. This is my busy time of year, and so I don't have as much free time right now as I do in the summer. Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines!

Its fine DIA and I understand that it is by choice that people come here and as I said maybe I take things too much to heart. Guess it is the social worker in me.

Good evening ladies.......beautiful flower Kimdee, would make a wonderful painting.

Angela, it does seem like the activity has dropped off quite a bit....and I think part of that maybe the regional threads that have popped up. Me personally, I've been pretty much in a Vicodin haze for the past 2-3 days...... popping them about every 6 hours for the pain. When I'm on them Gawd only knows where I'll go with a discussion or even be able to stay on topic. I've answered a few DD's here and there, but even those take a while and much attention and more than a few have been started and then forgotten.......only to be totally confusing when I come back to the computer hours later..........."when the hell did I type that and why........" type surprise.

Vicodin and I don't do well together......it takes care of the pain, but pretty well disassociates me with everything around me......today, I've laid off them completely and just kept my backside planted on the couch or in my chair today and still feel like I'm in a haze.

Participation seems to ebb and flow on these threads........when I joined it was slow to, then it picked up and now we're slow again...........the tide will turn again.

Diaspoton, Electric heated tile floors are great, proper prior planning prevents p poor performance. I have my electrician locate the 220/20 amp circuit to power up the floor heat at rough in and connect the entire package to a thermostat. Then I coordinate the wire loop install with my tile setter as the heat mat or loop must be embedded in mortar. There are caveats, like don't put the heat near the toilet...it will melt the wax ring and cause undetected leaking (unless there is a room below). Install a "Yowler", a screaming alarm that lets the installers know if a wire has been cut and do go ahead and run the heat under the tub...a toasty warm tub stays hot longer.

Took hubby and went out and looked at a bank owned house for sale yesterday. Now that my kids are both at university, we don't really need a big house. Plus, we're both a bit tired of the maintenance...houses can be a lot of work and I have been busy enough that I don't want to work on my house in the evenings.

We've got two big hangups on the way to downsizing...what to do with all our stuff and how to find another house we both like. I imagine we'll end up staying in this house for quite a while yet because we don't seem to have the same ideas about what we want to buy. I think we probably viewed at least 60 houses before we found this house

I really liked the house we saw yesterday...1500 sq foot 2 bedroom bungalow with an unheated attic that has good stairs up to an absolutely huge great room. The attic room has wood planks on the walls and drywalled ceiling all the way to the underside of the rafters. The space is huge, almost 30 x 40 feet with windows on all 4 walls. Plus, it has a full, unfinished basement in good condition as well. Hubby's point was if we finished out the attic, it wouldn't really count as downsizing. His thinking is that it would be a shame to have such a unique space and not use it! I wouldn't mind just living on the main floor and finishing out the attic if either child ended up moving in with us at some point.

I know what will probably happen is that he will come up with all sorts of objections until I tell him that the house is under contract and then he'll start telling me that I should have put in an offer on it. I don't think it will stay on the market long as it is bank owned and is quite a lot of house for the price.

DIA - I could give up the heated shower seat and just install a heated towel rack instead . I don't spend that much time in the shower but nice toasty warm towels would make up for the occasional use of an unheated seat.

Do you have another heat source and the floor heat is just a bit extra? Or, is the floor heat the main heat for the room?

Angela -- do you love it?? Did you post a picture yet? I can't wait to see it!

linda, that looks like a wonderful space with so many possiblities. good luck with your decision.

thanks for the bath advice. i have central heat but prefer to keep it low and sleep with a comforter. that makes for a very chilly bath. i've tried heaters but besides being in the way, they take too long to heat the room.
i'm also planning to add a seperate water heater so i can enjoy very long hot showers. i'm thinking tankless but haven't researched them yet.
