Help with brick please.

Let me begin again. Can you help me with this brick fireplace? It’s been like this for 20 years and has to go, but my husband says no to painting. Can you help me work around this? My home is modern with warm coastal details and of course other era accents and small furnishings. Would like to lighten up this fireplace…do not like farm house or colonial styles. Thank you for any help.

Added pictures as requested. pleeease help.

You need to post pictures of the entire room and other rooms in your home. Just the FP does not give us context as the FP does not stand alone in design of the room. We need to see what you call "warm coastal" and "modern". One thing is that the FP is never going to look great with that oversized Tv above it

Nothing in your photo suggests that your home is "modern". You need to show what you mean by that.

Ok, you are probably right. sofa, coffee table, stark white curtains may be a bit modern 🤷‍♀️ but yes, not sure what it is. I find what we need (with two completely personalities-which is hard). and then what I like. Maybe its eclectic.

Thanks..I hate dark walls but that works. Have been hunting a new rug to bring the brown tile amd grey sectional together. A wide sliding glass door looks out to a large brick porch with rattan furniture and plants,, very relaxed. I like bringing that feeling inside. Do you think i can do something with the foreplace with thw walls white or at least light and airy.

I don't think light walls can be as effective as the dark walls but you might be able to match the gray of the sectional and get it to work. Here is a paint that matches your sofa. Not nearly as dark. See how it sets off your wall art better than the light walls.

You can always add matchstick blinds to further the rattan style in the room.
