Reminds me a bit of curly dock - Rumex crispus? Does that grow where you are?

I'm pretty sure it's a rumex. But I am much less certain it is R. crispus (which is a common weed in most areas here), than it is a native species, possibly R. occidentalis.

I don't get a Rumex vibe from this plant. But I can't say what it is. The centre of the rosette, with the new growth, looks more Asteraceae to me. Maybe even Campanula persicifolia. What I can see of the backs of the new leaves looks purplish and possible felted. Are they? Can you verify that? And are the leaves wet or naturally shiny? And please give us a sense of scale. Looking at the surrounding leaves and twigs I'm wondering if the leaves are smaller than we're imagining.

Thanks. And what about the backs of the leaves? Can you show them? What I can see of the centre of the rosette doesn't Look like a Rumex. And is the leaf texture slightly rough?

Do you get Dame's Rocket (Hesperis matronalis) in your area? It looks like the basal rosettes I am seeing in our woods (ugh) now that the snow has melted and the leaves look mustard-ish to me.
