OH, the chair is a chaise type chair but not side oriented...straight. The rocker was my granddad's...older style but I love it... thanks!

Are you putting stools at the kitchen counter? IF you are, they will need some room here, too. THEN I would like to suggest making an L with the fireplace and the couch.......putting the couch to the right of the fireplace and perpendicular. Make the angle of the rug match the angle of the couch. You determine where it feels best to have the couch start on that wall. Try to put a table beside it with a lamp. The lamp will take up some wall space, too. This will open up the kitchen/bar stool area for you.

The chaise may work best where it is or snuggled in closer to the fire place.....hard to tell with the pic. The rocking chair needs room to rock, so no walls behind it closely. MAYBE at the end of the couch, facing the fireplace???

Emily, your instincts to face the corner fireplace are absolutely correct, IMO. It is the natural focal point of a room and you've arranged your furniture to that effect. Hard to see in the second pic, but the chaise seems to be back a bit too far. Can it be pulled forward to be more a part of the grouping? Otherwise, it looks to me like you've hit on the best arrangement for this room.

I looks a bit crowded to me this way. How about angling the sofa perpendicular to the FP and have the chair/table lamp across from the sofa. Then, float the rocker where the sofa is now. It will feel much more spacious. A sofa table behind would allow a spot for a lamp and light as well.

Loving all the ideas! I have to wait for the Mr to get home so before I move anything cuz that sofa is HEAVY but will post pics if we decide to rearrange. Keep the input coming though...Love it! OH next I'll post my breakfast nook window treatment dilemma! LOL
