Tahini tutorial with instructions

last modified: last month

I told @undefined that I would post directions and pictures of tahini making at home. It is far and away a superior product compared to bought tahini. It takes only a few minutes but there are rules to follow closely to assure success.

The S’s to success: stir, smell, sound , sight.

Buy hulled organic sesame seeds. I get Nut. com but there are others. Large skillet so only a thin layer. Medium flame stir constantly . They make a subtle snap sound , fragrance starts , they ” feel sticky” when stirring and you can see a tiny bit of color start. It only takes 5-10 minutes. Pour out on a large tray to cool them.

You have to use a food processor and it takes exactly 10 minutes. They clump at first and then at 10 minutes a miracle happens and you have tahini. Never add oil they have enough. It keeps months in the fridge . Unless you eat it all. 😊.

And….. it took 5 minutes! Wow they were slightly warm and fresh ones so they are wonderful. Never took this short a time. Hope you try it. ( Trailrunner)
