I can't decide between rugs

I am purchasing my first wool rug, a big investment for me, I've narrowed it down to these two rugs. I like both very much but there are pros and cons on either side some advice and opinions might help. The Jala Medallion rug is from World Market it is an 8x 10 Hand tufted wool blend: 50% viscose, 35% wool, 15% cotton so down side not 100% wool, also some of the threads contained in the medallions pull out. The Athena rug by Surya is 100% wool but it is a 9 x 71/2 not as soft and rather subdued and plain. Both were are exactly the same price....

    Hello! Esthetically speaking only. The first one is cute. I love World Market! :) Honstly in this room, I think the second one is too dark and the first too busy for your drapes and throw pillows. Im sorry. Theres so much brown already in there that I think your lovely fireplace is disappearing. but it could be how the pic was taken? Maybe moving the rug in under the couch a few more inches so that more flooring is exposed would help that. Good luck!

      I am voting solely off my favored *look* and that would be the Surya. The Medallion one is quite busy;)

      Any rug with cotton will just absorb dirt and be so difficult to clean, you will love the 100% wool. And like Darzy said, if you can identify a problem with threads pulling out already, just wait until it gets used, not a good investment. The Athena!

      I think the second one is better. It supports rather than dominates the rest do your lovely decor.

      The Surya rug looks more expensive and less trendy which makes it a better investment. Also, less of an "in your face" pattern will make it easier to decorate around. Go with big splashy pattern in pillows and things you aren't spending so much money on. Easier to change if you get tired of the look.

      But like Lisette said, these aren't the only two rugs in the world. Keep looking if you're that unsure. Your place is very cute and has alot of style.

      I like the floral area rug. It ties in with the pillows on the couch. If you are looking for a different style I came across this: www.carpetsuperstores.ca. It has a few that might fit your style.

      Agree the 2nd one is a lot easier on the eye. When I went to the 1st picture - i went - WOW
      too much pattern (floor, brick, drapes, cushions).

      I own several Surya rugs. All 100 percent wool. I can vouch for there construction, comfort, and wear. I'd go with the 2 nd but I also like the middle one from rugsdonerite.com. Mt friend has that rug and it makes the room!

      Supports rather than dominates........I love that! For me, the second one does just that. And I also want to say what a lovely room this is and also love how you have a tv in it, but it does not overpower the area and scream in your face.

      I love my 100% wool Surya rug and after looking for two years for a simple, Asian style, I found it and it was a bargain. Personally, I think both of the rugs you are viewing are too busy, as they compete with all the other beautiful designs in your room. I would consider a more solid color like the gold one shown above. As one person stated, your indecision is most likely due to the fact that you truly are not comfortable with either rug.       In my personal opinion a lighter coloured rug would do better in your lovely room. Maybe one of the lighter colours in the first rug as a basis? Good luck! Most important is that it "works" in your eyes.

      Sorry, that Surya rug looks way too small in the space. May be ok if it was under the sofa a bit. If the other is shedding, I agree it would be a nightmare. I like the Safavieh both for colour and pattern. I think it would look great in your very beautiful room. We don't know price or material, though.

      The first one is fun and very attractive in your room. But it's obviously not a good choice because of it's faults. If you can't find a wool rug similar to that one, stick with the second option, better quality.

      I don't think either of the rugs do the room justice. I'd be searching for something not so brown.

      I really love the first one. The second seems maroon on my screen. What is its real color.? However, make the most of your investment with a rug made from a durable material. Keep looking.

      I am also going back and forth between two rugs at the moment in my LR. I like the second option with your curtains and throw pillows more. :)

      Both are pretty rugs but I would go with something lighter in colour to complement your drapes.

      I really like the first one better but it seems like your pillows are competing with the rug and drapes...a little too busy. I would pick up some solid pillows in the same colors as the circles in the new rug.

      I don't care for either in this room although both rugs are pretty. Too many patterns that are similar. Go for editing the room before choosing rugs. If it must be one of these go for the floral which is also all wool. Good luck.

      Both rugs are great options. Either rug would bring visual interest to the room. However, I believe the medallion patterned rug is a bit busy for the throw pillows and curtains. I would suggest the Athena rug primarily because the subdued pattern works really well with the space. It seems warmer and more inviting than the medallion rug. It really complements your brick fireplace artwork. Good luck!

      I love both, but with the love of pattern that you have, I think you would be happier with the first. Boring as you stated in the beginning, doesn't seem like it would make you happy and that's what counts! I am in love with all the color and texture in your room. I would love to be in that space.       If you decide on the tufted wool rug just know you can't ever wash it like a hand knotted wool rug

      plain rug all the way. it grounds the rest of your great room rather than competing with it.

      I like the first rug better, the size especially. I think the fabric of the second one will be better, but the size and color is a bit off for me.
