Hi! What type of oak do you believe this bathroom vanity to be? Appreciate your help!

    Another close up

The main characteristic is stain, not type wood. It could be plain sawn oak or ash with walnut stain.

Just red oak with a walnut stain.

Not the wood type I would have chosen with the marble and other things going on in that bathroom. It wood used looks too "casual" for the overall design.

Yes to red oak. Yes to not the best choice of material for that sink/counter combo. I might have gone with no stain, just poly with that trim. White seems most logical but against the current wainscoting I understand why it's not. You are showing two different rooms. Perhaps you haven't finalized many of your design options yet.

We can only guess since it is stained but not a choice I would make with that sink and also no wall trim with that sink and why are you asking?

I would also like to know why you are asking.

Thanks all - it sounds like it’s a stained red oak. Thanks!

Are you asking because you need to know whether or not you need oil based primer to obliterate tannins before you paint it?

For clarity, asking as I debate between a white oak vs. red oak for a vanity I’m having built that resembles the inspiration pictures shared above. Thanks

Personally, I would do a rift sawn white oak vanity - especially with the shape and material used for the countertops.

To help me improve communication with consumers and professionals , I'd like to ask some questions of my own.

@Moose Bennett , shouldn't you ask " What materials should be used to duplicate appearance of wood in this picture"rather than beating around the bush asking "What type Oak do you believe this bathroom vanity to be"? The answer to question as you chose to ask is " likely plain sawn Red but possibly Ash or other species". That leaves you to figure out what finish to use and how to use that finish. So my question of you is why did you choose to cloak it in mystery instead of just asking the straightforward question?

@dani_m08 , are you telling op they will be happier white rift pattern than plain sawn? If you were my employee in a cabinet shop, paint store or supply house I would likely put you under consoling for that kind of attitude toward my customers. If I;m wrong please explain how your response addresses op's question.

I;m not trying to bash you folks , I am and have been a student of customer service since beginning my career. I realize people don't always think and reason exactly alike so I strive to recognize and serve those individual trains of reasoning. Thanks for helping me see your logic that i might recognize it in the future.

@klem1 - Wow. Op's question in his/her post had already been answered by more than one person - red oak (plain sawn).

Did you read OP's comment directly above mine?

For clarity, asking as I debate between a white oak vs. red oak for a vanity I’m having built that resembles the inspiration pictures shared above. Thanks

I wasn't telling OP that he/she will be happier with rift sawn white oak - I just shared my opinion - the same as others do in every post on Houzz.

    Example -

    @chispa commented:

Not the wood type I would have chosen with the marble and other things going on in that bathroom. It wood used looks too "casual" for the overall design.

I am a partner in a large law firm - I have associates who share their opinions about issues/various topics - and I don't feel the need to "scold" them, In fact, I encourage it. If an associate was rude towards one of my clients, I would have a discussion with him/her - however, I was not rude towards the OP.

OP specifically commented that he/she is debating between a white oak vs. red oak vanity. I simply provided my opinion that I think rift sawn white oak would work better with a marble countertop - especially with that particular design.

If you really are looking for a way to improve your communication with people, I'd start by not telling someone (who was only trying to be helpful + expressed no rudeness) that you'd put him/her "under consoling for that kind of attitude toward my customers." I had no attitude towards OP - I simply was trying to be helpful by providing a suggestion to look at rift sawn white oak for the vanity.

FYI - your comment came across as bashing/scolding/reprimanding me for expressing some type of inappropriate attitude towards OP which simply did not happen.

dani_m08 - thank you, multiple folks, including yourself comprehended the question and were super helpful!

klem1 - important lesson for you here: read the entire thread (or listen to the full conversation before replying with a question to your clients question) 😉

    Thanks again all!

@dani_m08 you answered the question as to your train of thought and reasoning, for which I thank you. Your logic on this technical issue ( wood grain pattern and coloration) might be equal to my logic on a legal issue. Op's sentence you cited was heard and processed quite different to what I heard and how I processed it.

For clarity, asking as I debate between a white oak vs. red oak for a vanity I’m having built that resembles the inspiration pictures shared above. Thanks

We've heard your logic, here's mine. Moose only mentioned white oak because he wasn't sure which is shown in pictures. Rift sawn white oak doesn't resemble plain sawn wood of any kind. so why say anything to Moose about rift sawn? Hearing "resembles the inspiration pictures." is all a cabinet shop or retail store employee needs to hear before laying plain sawn wood and walnut stainon counter, asking if there's anything else needed, then asking if it's cash or charge. 15 minutes and Moose is on the way home , not still standing in store being further confused by salesman with a law degree. I would offer you a position in design where customers pay by the hour for someone to swap ideas with.

@klem1 a question and observation for you...why did you assume Moose, the OP is a "he?" The noun "moose" is nongender specific.

I admit to knowing absolutely nothing about individuals that choose to obfuscate their gender identity. Now that you are here tozmo1 , please share your expertise in sorting shemales and shims from lowly grunts out trolling.
