Help Styling Sofa Table

last modified: 28 days ago

The table is 33” h x 14”d x 45” w. The lamp is 19.5 h x 9”x9” shade. Is this lamp the proper proportion with the table? Any ideas how to style this table with a lamp would be helpful.

Take a pic from further back , it looks like the table is squished right up to the door not a good idea. Is there no where else for the clock ? Do you need a lamp for function? IMO a bit smaller table a pice of art on the wall above or maybe the clock. The vase and the bowl

Agree it’s too close to the door, easily bumped by coats, totes and kids in a hurry. As far as arranging items, lamp to the left of clock , put seasonal greens in low bowl on lower shelf. Keep dish with the balls under the clock, maybe add a shallow leather receptacle for keys so they don’t scratch the glass. Remove mugs. I like the table.

I like textured items against smooth items so in my mind there is too much glass/ceramic sitting on the glass top -

slick lacquer table but has nubby vase, dried floral, hair on hide boxes etc

I must agree that the table is too close to the door for styling. No need for a lot of extra stuff right inside the door.

I agree that a table with a lamp is a great idea, but you really only need a large bowl to drop keys and phone... A mirror may be better suited for the door.

The clock should be hung just as you would a piece of art, centered at eye level, is there a spot in the room that would show off the clock more?

Okay here is another picture standing further away. There is a little space on each side of the table so it is not right up against the door. Most of the tables I liked were too wide. Originally, I had the clock above my fireplace, but when I remodeled, I added a picture light so I hung a beautiful oil painting (I inherited from in-laws) up there and had to move the clock. The clock won’t work on any other wall in this room so it is staying there. I just ordered a larger lamp, 23” h with a 12” lampshade. I’ll see how that looks. I like having a lamp on that table because it is the fourth corner of the room and it needed to be lit. I’ll take a picture when it comes in for more help. This table is in my family room and that is the back patio door so this is not used as a drop area. Also, no kids live here anymore.

The lamp size works fine with the table, but it feels a bit small because everything is very centered and evenly spaced. Try moving the lamp slightly off-center and pairing it with one taller object (like a small plant or artwork above) to create more visual balance and height.

This is just a quick idea I put together. Move clock over to off center and then balance the other things on the table.

I received the new lamp and it is taller and wider than the other one but the same color. I will be looking for a few more items to replace the two items on the right. Thank you all for your suggestions.

I feel like the table is a bit too large for the space. I think it would better if it were 6-8" narrower and 2" shallower. If I had to work with it, I'd recommend a taller vase with some whispy greens on the left (where the lamp is) and remove the vase closest to the closed door. I'm not sure I like the clock there either.
