help me with this kitchen!

I can’t put my finger on what is not working in this kitchen. The colors? The wallpaper? Practically it is fine but aesthetically I find it so underwhelming. I’m thinking new wallpaper and maybe a new countertop? But that hurts bc really…it’s practically “fine”

I don't think the wall color works with the cabinetry or the view.

Take a few cooking classes and nobody will care what the kitchen looks like.

That gray finish on the door faces doesn't work with anything. The base cabinets and counters are warm in tone and then you add the gray and it goes with NOTHING. Plain White would have been better.

The wallpaper is all wrong also.

NOTHING works about that kitchen, starting with the Veruca Salt temper tantrum gotta get their way "gotta have an island" tiny little unworkable thing. The aesthetics are done by someone color blind, with no sense of proportion.

You need a whole new everything. Starting with a better space plan.

Minardi this one really made me laugh - I think you’re spot on 😅 the first thing I said to husband when we walked in was “I think we’d need a whole new kitchen” and he was aghast

Are you purchasing or have you already purchased this home?

Shiny floors, shiny two-height counters, shiny cabinets - if you can start from scratch that’d be great.

You can paint the pink wall another color and lead a perfectly fine life in this imperfect kitchen. The proportions and layout are wonky. The colors are off. But, it looks really useable for years as is too.

What is with the grey stripe at the bottom of the pink wall? It might actually be a better color for the whole wall instead of pink.

Your kitchen layout works so well, the island range hood really stands out as the focal point. If budget permits, upgrading to a more artistic hood could elevate the whole space. Stainless steel and copper are both great choices.

It's cold and sterile. The counter tops are the LEAST of the issues. The two tone is a HUGE fail. IDK what the material is on the uppers but they need to go and complete matching the lowers, for a good start. It appears the cook was performative with that over sized cook top and seating all around but lowered so as not to get burned or be in the way.

Am I seeing a trash can on the side of the island? Function first before worrying about colors. Do you like the way it functions for you? What are you lacking or see improving on in terms of function? If it functions fine for you and you don’t want to spend much money you could redo just the island so that it has more workable space around the cooktop (as well as painting the walls, etc).

If you aren’t prepared for a full gut remodel I do think a new island can be a huge improvement. And a wall color that matches the light neutral I see in the adjoining space would be nice. Up to you if you’d want to do the same new countertop on the perimeter….budget will determine next steps.

USARangeHood: "Your kitchen layout works so well"

@USARangeHood - seriously? That Kitchen needs some major changes! The biggest issue? The cooktop has no business on that tiny island!

That's just the one of many issues in that Kitchen.

Besides, I don't think this is the OP's Kitchen. It sounds like the OP was just touring the home.

(I'm guessing you just posted to advertise your business.)

There are certain aspects of this kitchen that made me think of this post. The wood detail around the taller cabinets, slab fronts, mixed materials. https://www.houzz.com/magazine/reimagined-kitchen-in-white-wood-and-blue-opens-up-the-home-stsetivw-vs~183564780
