It looks like the wrong sink cabinet for the sink

Here was the cabinet before they put the sink in…

That looks like a short apron sink. They’re made to retrofit in a regular sink base.

So are we seeing a seam in the wood there? Hard to tell. Was the sink selection given to the cabinet maker?

Before I ordered the sink, i verified it would fit with the cabinet maker. it almost looks like they put a filler piece in?

You're using cheap RTA. There's not a lot of choices for cabinets, or sink bases. You also bought a short apron farm sink, rather than the tall apron farm sink. That's why there's a big blank space there. You needed the tall apron farm sink, but that is way in the rear view mirror.

gotcha! well, AI gave me this idea… a smaller hand towel wouldnt look bad…

swap the sink cab doors for taller ones.

Brilliant save @herbflavor. It will look 1,000 times better than chatgpt's towel suggestions, which looks like an odd cover up of a mistake.

here is a screenshot of the sink and a screen shot of the cabinet. the apron is 9inches deep. i still feel like the sink shouldnt be so far up from the cabinets .

You can replace the doors for higher ones to look like this

The sink has to be at the counter height so it’s change the sink or change the cabinet.

Cek20335..that makes perfect sense. i just figured i picked things out that both the contractor and the cabinet company verified it would fit. i guess technically it does lol. sucks there is such a big space between the sink and cabinet.

This is a question that should have been addressed by your designer. If you are using a basic cabinet line, they may only offer one size farm sink base so it is designed to accept sink up to 11" deep undermounted. You have a short arpon sink and it is not undermounted so you have a lot of panel showing. Someone should have done the math before the sink was purchased and advised you of what it would look like.

Im not sure the cabinet maker has taller doors. its a RTA company with not many options. so im trying to think of a way to make it ”acceptable” .

get Hold of SCHERRS..they'll get you doors for that. You have probably a range of about 1.5 inches from top of door to bottom of sink that will be fine. the other way is add a faux drawer front above the existing doors as in the cabinet to the left of sink [ drawer plus doors] ..you could skip a knob and be perfectly acceptable as a panel .

if you have no other option, just insert a simple panel [drawer front] ..... after its on you wont even think about this anymore. towel rail would be a constant reminder.

Explore getting the higher doors. You don’t want a towel bar where you stand to work in your kitchen sink. It’ll annoy you, believe me.

That's the wrong cabinet; it's for a full apron sink. You apparently have a short apron top mount sink made for retrofitting into a standard cabinet after the false drawers are removed.

The thing im most confused about is… the sink thats installed, the apron front measures 9 inches on the specifications, all others are 10 inches… yet my sink apron looks much shorter, like you said. Here is a screen shot of the sink that was installed, showing the apron is 9 inches. i guess ive learned a lesson.

i know its top mount, i thought it would be better with a butcher block counter top around the water even though i had the butcher sealed with waterlox.

Herbflavor… I think my best option at this point is to put a false drawer panel with a knob to make it look like a real drawer.. i think thats what you mentioned?

false drawer panel will be easy and probably sufficient . Its worth it to measure and see if some new doors would be simple to source though. you possibly have 2 options.

"Im not sure the cabinet maker has taller doors. its a RTA company with not many options. "

@HU-831068037 The doors needed would be standard height, measure the height of the doors that are to the left of the sink. Adding a false drawer will look very out of place, the towel bar is a better option than that.

You have to learn how to read specs. It's 9" of interior depth. The inside is taller than the short apron outside. It is meant to be used with a standard non farmhouse sink base, as a retrofit to not changing out the sink base to fit a deeper farm sink.

I guess I am just a little disapointed because I thought I had my contractor and my kitchen designers thumbs up when I showed them both the sink for the cabinet. only to see my dilemma once it was installed. what attracted me to this sink, it was a drop in sink, so it would be less likely to get the butcher block around the sink wet vs a undermount. i guess its too far into it to change it to a full sized apron sink since its already installed and as a top mount. i feel so dumb

The details matter, but you aren't dumb. You didn't know what you didn't know. You learnt a lot during the process and you won't repeat the same mistakes the next time you do a remodel and you will know to look for those little details that make a difference. Most people replying have learnt through training/studying and real world experiences, both successes and failures.

As has been suggested, taller doors will look best, and you may be able to source them from the cabinet company. You could buy a matching base cabinet, probably a sink base and use the doors if they are unavailable as separate items.

You will need someone to modify the new doors as the top hinge will be in the wrong place.

I want to say thank you very much for everyone who has helped me and educated me along the way. the cabinet company gave me these two options…. IF i choose the taller doors option- it will still leave a 1 1/2 inch gap between the apron sink and cabinet door. so i am not sure which option to choose? currently the cabinets installed in my original photo are 17 3/4 inches tall and there is a 6 inch 5/8 inches gap from cabinet to sink. the cabinet doors that they can send me are 22 inches. or the other option is placing those two drawer panel faces to fill in the space.

Get the doors. If you dislike the 1.5 inch gap then consider installing a drip rail.

There is definitely a small gap under my farmhouse sink. A cabinet with doors a good option. I never notice the gap. Love the deep Fireclay sink.

i believe my gap will be 2.37 inches if i choose the taller cabinet doors ..but thats way better than 6 5/8 inch gap.
