I'd think about balancing your goals and your budget. Just observations and 100% no offense meant, but your condo looks like a contractor / flipper special:

No thought to venting a range, cheap looking cabinets floating on the wall, inexpensive looking closet doors. None of these things are going to change in what you are proposing. So, how much money should you really spend on an expensive, potentially custom furniture-like island?

What is your budget? How often do you live here? (I assume this is a vacation home.) And how long do you want to own it? These all factor into how much I'd spend on this kitchen. It doesn't make sense to put high end features into an otherwise low end kitchen.

If you are keeping all of the non-island cabinets, I'd paint the walls to match them so they blend in more and feel less randomly stuck on the wall.

Purchase island cabinets in a similar quality to the other cabinets. Get the island painted a coastal vibe color (not even sure what that means :)) so you don't have to figure out matching the island wood to your wood flooring.

Get countertops you like that are not wildly expensive.

Figure out what means of decor you can use to get a "high-end" coastal vibe, including counter stools.

I am afraid I agree a buildeers idea of a quick sale no personality at all. Please share your budget . I would not spand any money on new cabinets or counters until you can afford to do this right. Do you electrical in the island now ? pendant lighting lights the island and really has no effect on the view and can add some very nice decor to a kitchen. If you want the island to have the look of furniture you will need to update what you have now.Are you actually living there already? If not then this needs to be done after you have lived there for 3-6 months min.

I have now had the property for over 10 years and have painted and have stainless steel appliances. I do not have an updated picture of what it looks like now, but the bones are the same. Looking for some helpful advice based on the constraints I've described. Not looking for commentary on the things that can't change.

I don't understand how you can have a range in a bar-height island! Is one part dropped lower?

I'd just replace that island with nice cabinets in some shade of blue, and maybe have some fun with counters or backsplash, depending on what strikes you.

If you want a classier overall effect, I'd consider adding a row of short cabinets above your current wall cabinets, to take them to the ceiling, and hanging small but glitzy pendants.

Look to @acm 's second pic with walls painted white to match the cabinets. It would make so much sense for your place. As does the white island and those color countertops. Your kitchen is hardly small, but all white will make it feel even bigger and less choppy than having a different colored island.

Be thoughtful about your backsplash as there is nothing bookending where the splash would end - no sidewalls or pantry cabinets. For this reason I'd do a white splash too because I hate seeing a splash just end mid wall.

I get why you don't want pendent lights and don't see why they are necessary.

Again, what is your budget for counters and island? This will drive your choices for how much of a custom island you will get. And again, don't over design it so it feels like it doesn't belong in your space.

Choose a countertop you love, and paint the walls to compliment it. I too like an island that has some interest. either build out an existing basic island with trims and mouldings to make it look like a piece of furniture, or buy a piece, like a buffet or chest of drawers and make it your own, either a stained finish or painted. You could even have a different countertop material for the top.

to minimize any view obstruction, a semi flush mount ceiling light.

Thank you. Budget around $15k. Here is another angle. The current range is on the inside of the island & counter height. This would all be removed & replaced with new cabinets.

What other colors will you be using in the decor and furniture? I can't tell from the pics if you already have it, but if not, adding some crown molding to the top of the cabinets would help a bit I think. I do think the space could use a bit of warmth added to it with bamboo shades as lisedv added. What kind of ventilation do you have for the stove? Is it gas or electric?

We have blues, whites, and rich wood in the rest of the room. But open to changes as well. I was originally thinking a a wood stained island, but i think the cost will be higher to pull that off in a nice/quality way. We’re open to adding crown molding to the existing white cabinets.

There is no range hood currently, and code does not require one. It is a gas range. We are considering adding venting to the ceiling above.

I find it nice for the island to be a contrasting colour with the wood floors.

First thing that I notice is that a soffit runs all around the room, making a tray ceiling. As is, what you have looks unbalanced. Suggest you add more cabinetry around the room, under the soffit. Then position your new counter top island.

Adding faux beams to the tray part of the ceiling would add a big wow.

As to your question, paint the island the color of the stainless appliances.
