Hallway runner needed?

last month
last modified: last month

We installed new LVP flooring throughout most of the house, which we like. Now, though, do we need to add a runner to this bedroom area hallway to warm it up, or is it fine without? Can't decide. Less maintenance without one, but is the hallway missing something without one? The walls may look gray in the picture, but they are actually a cream, light taupe color.

No rug needed unless you need a rug. The only reason I have ever used a rug in a hallway was to help the pets not slip so much on hard floors. The mirror reflects nothing and makes the hallway look longer. Replace it with a nice piece of art. The patterns created with the ceiling lights would drive me crazy because when I walk down a hallway with the lights on I want to see for whatever reason. Keep them if you want but I would want almost a daylight feeling with the lighting.

The new floor looks very nice - I don't think a rug is necessary but it's more of a personal preference. Looks like this is the bedroom hall area so the mirror is fine there. I would consider adding a couple art pieces that are flat framed for the wall on the right. Something everyone would enjoy seeing when using the hallway.

The passage is what? 39"? wide?

Please LOSE the mirror for a nice vertical piece of art! Or a stack of three prints.

IF a runner at all? It is TWO runners, shorter.

Draw the length, note EXACTLY where door openings are located. , Note the exact width!

You need "interest on the walls, so the walls do not close in.

Not a fan of the lights: ) sorry.

NO runner it will just make a tripping hazard and yes to a nice piece of art no morror or as said 3 hyng vetically for art can work too. The lights create and bad glare for sure.

The hallway is missing something in my mind--some color. Right now it's a gray/gray/cold space. I would have used an actual color or wallpaper on the walls, or a warmer floor. And yes, the lighting is cold and harsh. A runner rug isn't going to do much, especially since it's such a narrow space. But if you do decide on one, use a good rug pad underneath to avoid it slipping and sliding. And select something with actual color, not a gray on gray runner.

I have 2 colorful runners in my long hallway. They have a thin non slip pad under them and the rugs dont slide. The rugs are very flat. We've had rugs in that hall for more than 20 years and haven't had anyone old or young trip on them. Hopefully no one ever will.

To help you decide, test one for a day or two and return if need be. The hall looks quite narrow in picture, so a more subtle pattern/color won’t overwhelm. As others have mentioned, maybe rethink the accessorizes.

A runner will also make the hallway quieter as it will absorb sound. If these are bedrooms off of the hall, that might be a consideration.

The hallway feels narrow so wide runner/s might add some visual width.

I would replace the lightbulbs with frosted ones to eliminate the shadow effect. And a warmer light bulb.

I would not want to watch myself walk down the hallway so I would use art instead of the mirror as suggested.
