J daylilies 2026

last month
last modified: last month

Today is the day to show us your J daylilies.

The Jurys Out….I am cheating and putting this daylily in the J category instead of T.

Funny for today: When I was a kid my parents moved alot, but I always found them.

Jurys Out has bud counts in the 20’s and higher, great branching.

Joan Derifield is getting crowded, blooming has been better the past two seasons.

Jolyene Nicole is a good performing smaller daylily.

That’s it for my J’s

Sherry - Your Jury's Out makes a bright spot in the late garden. Joan Derifield is always pretty. When I was giving away daylilies before I moved, Joan was the most in-demand cultivar in my garden.

I only have one registered J from last season, so I'll post a couple of good seedlings with it.

Jeanne Deaver's Dream - This one was short and didn't have many buds. It will be interesting o see whether this evergreen survives this brutally cold winter.

Judy's Jewel X Bubblegum Queen #1 - Good height, multiplier and rebloomer. An evergreen, it had fewer buds in Indiana.

Judy's Jewel X Bubblegum Queen #2 - The semi-evergreen sibling had more buds (17) in Indiana than in TN. While it did rebloom some years in Nashville, it did not rebloom here. The bloom size on both sibs is 7.5 inches.

Sherry: I like all the ones you posted. Maybe partial to The Jury's Out because of the trumpet shapped form. Reminds me of Mary Todd.........Nan: What a name to have to spell let along write all the time: JJJS. Yet it sure is a nice one. The white teeth make it special.......Debra: You always do such pretty rose colored daylilies. I think you are on to something-lol........My one J was new last year, and was a small fan so only had a few blooms. It's a double with that peony style form that I like so much. A clump picture on the data base enabled me on:

    JEAN SWANN:

NANCY: I really like Jeepers Creepers and JJJS

    DEBRA: Bubblegum Queen #2

    Here are my contributions:

JUST ANOTHER YELLOW: I love this plant. Substance is like cardboard.

JELLYROLL MORTON: Nice plant that reblooms for me.

    JELLYFISH JEALOUSY

JORDAN'S JAZZ: This is a great plant with large blooms

    Joy To Behold

Jamaican Midnight: A nice dark one.

Jubilee Ball: A nice Bennett intro.

    Janet Grebus Murphy

    JERRY HYATT

    JACQUELINE KENNEDY ONASSIS: Great daylily

    JP MONEYBAGS

JAZZ ME BLUES: Another Bennett intro

This one is from COTTAGE GARDENS and almost came home with me, but it was rather expensive.

    Trying again, previous comment disappeared.

David, I always like seeing Jellyroll Morton.

Jubilee Ball is a very nice looking pink, delicate looking.

I like Jelly Belly too. Good name for a Tom Baker as Dr. Who fan.

A beautiful pic of Jean Swann. The Bennets all look good. Finally, there will be some relief from the cold here.

Joy Came Down did not disappoint.

This is my Jean Swann. Pic from this year is a bit fuzzy (early morning). There was a time when doubles were very popular.

Jellyroll Morton. Superb in the late midseason. I wish more of Curt's were this tall.

Jubilee Ball. Better pics from other years.

Jupiter's Eye. Gossard. No evaluation yet.

Joe Burrow. It was good this year, but unpleasant to view in the midseason heat. One of only pics this year, taken 6/29, so probably just starting. Cold or hot, Mother Nature insists on delivering extremes. Last fall was quite pleasant, except that the water was turned off for much of the time.

Jordan's Jazz. Very large blooms on a fairly short plant.

    John Karl Seager blooms earlier.

    Jimmy. Tall, big, and sturdy.

Joe the Plumber. later bloomer. I have better pics from previous years.

Jazz Me Blues. Nice, but still needs to hit its stride.

JP Moneybags is a good earlier bloomer.

Jerry Hyatt. Performance can be varied.

Jan Zoo. Later bloomer. Only pic I took.

Jim's Song. One of the first to bloom here, it is a large rich red.

Mantis: What a really tempting group you have. Just what I don't need-lol. Jazz Me Blues and Jubilee Ball are both Bennetts that call to me, Joe the Plumber is on my long list, and even the Red Jim's Song is striking with that clear bright red.....I think there may be a minor resurgance of interest in doubles. More hybridizers seem to be dabbling in them. I spoke with one last year that is switching his efforts to mainly doubles. There is room for improvement on the amount of bloom produced at one time (a big flush of doubles is gorgeous), and stabilizing the form imo..........Daylilies have something for about everyone.....Maryl

Maryl, I agree. Peggy Jeffcoat was wonderful this past year. Some hybridizers, like Kirsten Hatfield, have had a strong doubles emphasis for a long time. There's Scott in your neck of the woods too (Topguns). "Minor resurgence" is the right phrase. Both the Bennetts you mention would probably be good pot subjects. Jim's song is large, with good height. Its the clarity of color and early bloom that appeal to me.

I like your clump shots, as they reveal different plant habits. JT Davis here could be quite beautiful, but was unreliable this far north. Jellyfish Jealousy took a lot of space here. Journey of Magic, a Petit, is a pretty one.

Mantis, I think JJ must have gotten its name because it is jealous of space! It does indeed take up a lot of space and very quickly!

Kate, my favorites of these are Joe the Plumber and Jellyroll Morton.
