I suck at decorating. can you please help me to decorate this part of the room (tv consol/wall). I will try to add other pictures of the room for reference too…. i bought this console bc i like the way it looks but maybe something lower and longer would be better? what color console should i be looking for? Ai or other visuals would be helpful… thanks in advance for your help!

I'd wall mount that large tv. It's look out of proportion for the small console .

as for the rest of the room, do you have a large family that use all of that seating? the blue chairs really crowd the space.

examples of wall mount (and don't hang it too high. floor to MIDDLE should be 58-60")

It does not appear a longer console will work with what appears to be the front door right there. IMO the mirror does not work there. You have a lot going on on the other side of the room, nothing wrong with keeping the TV wall simple.

The sofa and love seat are very dark compared to the rug & chairs. Too many items on the gallery wall. Move the floral print to where the gallery wall is, the proportions will be better. Then just the middle print from the bottom row of the gallery over the loveseat. Agree to hang the TV and remove the mirror from that wall.

Not going to lie. Does not look good. Two "big boxes" , on a wall that for all we know, isn't even the best wall for the tv.

How about this? Draw and measure the room. Every inch of it. Walls, window, where the entry is. Show more pictures of what surround the space. Post all of that in a comment box below. Upload an accurate JPEG of your sketch with all the feet and inches noted for everything, where openings and passages lead.

That's how to get advice tailored to the room...the console, and y.o.u. and the lol........." no suck" possibilities.

Agree, remove mirror. Do you need anything on that wall? Gallery wall and art is a recent project completed so let’s focus on the OP’s question. If that gallery wall is a given, there is enough wall decor. What are your needs for seating?

Looking at the rest of the room, I would agree that console is a bit dark and heavy. Is mounting the TV on the wall an option? It might not be. I would consider getting a piece of furniture in a lighter colour it would flow better with the rug and the pillows. Something simple, in a white or light grey finish. And something that’s not going to interfere with the opening of the door to the right as KC has pointed out.

IKEA and Wayfair… The simpler style would complement the style of your chairs. And the light colour as well. You could move some of your items that are on your coffee table so that the gallery wall end of the room is less busy. These are details… professionals on here may want to redo the whole room… lol. Best make it clear how far you really want to go.

Beth’s mock up with the black table console balances out the dark couches and open look solves the heavy “2 dark boxes” on that wall issue…so think about the open quality when you pick your piece. Dark finish works if it is a more open structure, as she has posted.

I'm liking the suggestion Beth H. has give you. Will also comment that there are just too many sofas and chairs in your room. Will suggest that you remove one of the chairs at least.

Maybe bringing the chairs closer together, and not angled, will help with not crowding that sofa, but we can't see that wall ...

The position of the chairs is temporary. i have the original piece of furniture that was under the tv pushed along the wall for now… thus pushing the chairs further in the room than they should be.

i just really need help w the tv console and the wall… I saw a design video saying to make things symetrical on both sides… so i was thinking someone would have commented alomg those lines… like to have something lomg to the right to sort of mimick the door to the left…..

Yes, I noticed that you can’t centre the TV on that wall due to the door that has to open on the right hand side. I thought about putting a tall plant there to the right of the TV… It seems it would probably be in the way of the entrance. You could probably find something attractive to hang on the wall to the right of the television; I have seen shelf sets that can work well to the right of the TV. I would solve the console problem first however. Get the furniture straightened out and then deal with the wall.

These shelves come in different styles and it wouldn’t have to go all the way to the floor like the first photo does. Just the fact that you had it mimicking the height of the door would be enough. And it wouldn’t get in the way of your entry door opening. Some of the items on your side table could be displayed on the shelves and it would balance out the room. In other words, most of the visual interest is all at one end of the room at this point.

I suggest painting the door and woodwork on that wall all the same color as the wall. Then it won’t appear as lopsided. Then incorporate Beth’s suggestion.

As mentioned by others there seems to be a lot of furniture for the size of the room but at 1st glance, the TV doesn't seem to be in the best location for watching. Can you post a floor plan showing all dimensions including windows, doors, entrance to the room, etc.

Do you sit in the chairs more to view the TV or the couch?

Gallery wall gone. Love seat and ottoman gone. Hang the art over the sofa. Aiming your sofa at your flat-screen makes perfect sense. Two chairs facing

This house is so small… this is my only room to sit w guests. so i really want to maximize the space and i do think this is the best way. although i do like that last picture idea- the chairs are not very comfortableor table. we mainly use the couch and love seat. having the tv by the front door seems like a good wat to maximize the space bc putting any seating there wouldnt make sense.

painting the door might be a good idea… i hate to do that but my son did put a hole in the bottom of the door so i am probably headed that direction anyway…. lol.

If you want o maximize the space get rid of the clutter the wall of art is doing nothing for the space or the art , alll the pillows that have to move to sit are clutter . Too much furniture makes the space feel tiny .. A to scale floor plan would help for sure. How many seats can actually watch the TV comfortably ? IMO the tV wall needs no more decor and a bit lower cabinet would be better for TV viewing. The chairs and the sofa work the rest not really . But at least post pics of the whole space . The floor plan will help us understand your limits

Considering you haven't posted a floor plan, here's just a visual of a few changes to consider to improve the room. Paint the door next to the TV and replace the horizontal blind on the front door with a roman shade. Replace the area rug with a textured neutral one and coordinate your accent pillows. Style your corner and side tables.

"Its just so small" has actual feet and inches! Draw and measure, or whine?

The OP has already stated that her main concern is the TV wall. She’s not looking at redoing her whole living room…unless something has changed in the last day or so? The gallery wall is a project that she just finished. You may not care for it but… It seems rude to ask somebody to pitch something out when it’s something they just completed. That’s probably the reason that you’re not getting measurements here. She may not want to redo the entire room.

However that may have changed… I’ll be interested to see what the final solutions are. I will lurk in the background.

Correct- I do not want to change the entire room. i understand the gallery wall might not be designer but it is the only place in the house where i can hang any pictures and they make me happy. i agree though that it is a work in progress. thank you all for your help. im on the hunt for a console table. its harder than i thought it would be. i think i just need to be patient until i find the right piece.

I think a lower and slightly longer console will be a great change. Your tv can also be on one end of the console. I know your door is there too creating a challenge but a longer console would still work. I really like the rest of the space. It looks cozy and loved.

What do u all think about this console? tge current one is 60 inches so this is longer and it will fit…. is this the one?!!!

I like this. I am a big fan of measuring things in the space to visually see how it looks. Either with cardboard or tape so you can see how close to the door it is too

thanks. ill try the tape method. im a lite worried about the depth. it will be the same but since it is longer its just going to be a big piece of furniture… thinner woild be better… but whats the chances i find the perfect piece?

How deep is it? Have you checked ilea? They have many that are low profile.

    last modified: 24 days ago

    18.5 deep.

actually its 1 inch shorter in depth than what i have now 🤣

“It makes you happy” is the acid test…🥰 and IMO our homes should be works in progress. Enjoy your current project! Houzz can be…annoying…sometimes. 😉 I have several gallery walls in my house. (Artist, retired art teacher). None of my displays are perfect. They are so frequently switched up, I cannot be bothered with perfection, I just want to see the art.

I also recommend IKEA…but assembly is their thing, which isn’t for all of us. My OS has one of their TV consoles; it was a pain to assemble. Taped measurements/paper on the floor is helpful, as is taking a photo and sitting in the room with your phone held up…to visualize what it will look like, in situ, (if you don’t have the tech to photoshop it in.)

That piece looks promising that you’ve recently posted. Are you thinking of mounting the TV on the wall?

Yes- i think i will ne mounting the tv to the wall

Thank you! well… what do you all think? also seeing it like this makes me wonder if it would be better wo painting the door… and then the closet door, front door and console all sort of go together…? although it doesmt really ’match’ w the rest of the room maybe?

or would it be better to do what the other poster suggested of having a darker wood w open area and baskets under?

I find having the door painted makes the wall feel wider but I like the front door in wood. I also like a black console with poufs for extra seating when needed, it's a question of preference.

I’m 50-50 on painting the door. But then I like natural wood. I think keeping both doors unpainted and natural and having the furniture natural, frames everything up symmetrically.

In other words… I would paint both doors or don’t paint at all.

I think the natural wood looks better than a dark console would. It blends in with the rest of the environment.
