I think people will want to know what the rest of the room looks like. Personally, I’m not a fan of drapes, but most on here are, if it were mine I would consider Roman shades.

But your choice is dependent on what else is going on in the room--furniture style, colors, what feel do you want in the room? formal, casual, etc.

Thanks for all of the recommendations! We have two rooms that have these windows. One is a library office and the other is a formal dining room. We’re getting new furniture too so seeing that wouldn’t help. Both are more formal though so I think the long drapes create that feeling the best. Thoughts?

I’d definitely hang curtain rod above the arch just 4” or so from the ceiling. Curtain rod should extend further past the window - 10-12”.

And use curtain rings! Hem curtains so they just “kiss” the floor.

Long curtains can be formal or casual. Depends on the fabric--silk/damask/satin are formal, while cotton/chintz/linen/wool are less formal.

IMO get the furniture then do the window coverings .

My DD bought a house that has two windows like that on the front of the house. One has white wood blinds in the master bath. The other is in a kids room so we hung drapes up above the arch. Being a practical mom, she cut a corrugated box to fit the arch help block the light while deciding on what to do over the wood blinds on the bottom.

I don't see how hanging the curtains above the arch looks more "current." You'll need longer panels, which will cost more. And if you want to block the light/sun from the arched windows you might want to have the curtains higher to cover them.

Whatever you do, make sure that the panels are well made, a good fullness, and the proper length. Little details make the difference.

Because to a small degree it minimizes a window shape that is not frequently used currently? Says the woman with 3 half round windows in her 90's house!

Haha, RNmomof2, I get it. What I did was to totally replace the round windows with transoms. More expensive, but looks much better!
