You need to show pictures. Who fills your bird feeders and takes care of your flowers?

Sorry I need pictures and some clue as to how you use the steps in a wheel chair . As for the patio space we would need to see the space and also some idea of the size you have to work with. My first thought is a nice decent size deck with no need to navigate the steps . Please post some pics

Consider combining a deck with a ramp down to the yard.

thanks for the input. They got me thinking, a ramp will not work for me when alone, which is 99% of the time. I do not have the arm strength to wheel myself up or down a ramp. When the weather breaks from rain, snow and ice, I will get someone to measure the area next to the house, etc. Again thanks everyone.

Here are a couple photos of the “transition deck” onto our former patio. The landing-style steps made it comfortable for an elderly family member to travel safely and it also enabled safety carrying food and beverages.

Aftere seeing the pics for sure a larger deck accessible easily from the house you can have quite a nice siz deck even some plant pots for you to take care of and still be able to enjoy the yard with a bit of help . You of course will need railing all around too. A small ramp for you if possible . Someone maybe every week to water or a nice auto system for thta . There are great ramp sytly door transitions for access to the deck. If you make it large enough then all your entertaining can be done out there too . I am on the board for a wheelchair accessible housing project and all units have a deck level with the unit the clients love them You could even do something like this with raised beds for access once on the ground

Have a deck built the same level as your door so you can get in and out by yourself. You will love having a place that you can sit even for 10 minutes at a time without having to pla or get assistance from someone to enjoy.

Consider wheelchair turning radius when you account for the deck size and layout of furniture. (Unless you are really adept at wheeling yourself backwards through the door.)

You can have the railings made to accommodate chair height window boxes for plantings you can weed and water yourself. You can also hang a bird feeder at the appropriate height for you to fill yourself.

Having a water spigot and a shelf at chair height would be helpful too.

Since you live in an area that gets snow, it is recommended (and it’s code in my area) that there is a step down from the house threshold to the deck to avoid snow or ice build up causing water intrusion or preventing access in/out of the home. In your case for accessibility, this may likely include some sort of a sloped step/ramp. Find a good contractor that is knowledgable about accessibility.
