Designing our kitchen

We're selecting colors for our spec house and here is what we've narrowed it down to. White, ivory, and charcoal gray for the cabinets. A light gray, natural, or medium brown for the floor. What's your favorite? Backsplash and countertop is not set, but probably a quartz with some warm veining.

White cabinets
Ivory cabinets
Charcoal gray cabiinets

Are you building a house to sell?

No, we are building it to live in.

Personally, I like the charcoal, but I like a bit of contrast and "activity". To me, the others are too "white" and appear a bit blah and sterile. BUT, that's my personal opinion. Actually, if I had a choice, I would choose a natural or stained wood - but it's not one of your options.

Is the flooring in the pictures your flooring?

    What do you lean toward?

Do you have a collection of inspiration pictures? If so, what do they seem to be predominately - whites or darker (maybe even natural or stained wood)?

I think I like the ivory and the charcoal. The white is looking a bit too neutral to me. Yes, I think that's the flooring I'd like to go with, but I'm open. Just nothing orange or too dark.

Add nothing gray and you have a winner.

The charcoal with that backsplash is nice.

Side note: Not with those pendants(might be there for illustration only).

Really this is not a question for strangers to answer. especailly in a vacuum. What colors do you like in decor , I mean do you lean towards beiges and browns or more colorful and blacks and whites . I happen to love grays and black and white but often stray from that in certain spaces. Go look online if you must and see which kitchens catch your eye that woud be better than asking here and getting 100s of opinions and not one bit helpful , If you have real issues with choosing things then IMO hire an ID to help you since building a new home will require many decisions to be made and someone to help would be worth the money

Which direction will the natural light be coming from? If from the north or east, choose the ivory (I hope ivory actually means a warm white and it is not overly yellow). If from the south or west, the dark color would work, if that's your preference. My kitchen has a northern exposure and the medium dark wood cabinets (installed by the previous owners) make the room dark. I am looking forward to replacing them with a warm white. Please stay away from flooring with a gray cast. That trend left a while ago. Like Kendrah said, a medium toned wood floor is the most trend-proof choice. Have you considered having a contrasting island?

Really, no one can choose colors from some AI renderings.

The backsplash shown with the dark stained cabinets was popular in 2010.

Gray toned floors/cabinets/etc stopped trending in 2021. RIP, they had a really long run!

And what is up with the frilly valance from 1980!

    Chispa said it well.

Don't catch a trend on its downswing.

Catch a trend on the upswing: stained or natural wood cabinets and floors. Classic plain tile backsplash with your countertops.

And, a big NO to those very fake looking LVP ”wood look” floors.

I would choose Ivory cabinets with darker hardwood floors, the ones you show look gray, choose a natural wood tone.

Get what YOU like & don’t ”catch” a trend on either the downswing or upswing! Trends come & go so fast it’ll be considered ”out” or “dated“ by the time your house is built.

As much as I like white or ivory kichen cabinets, still have them, always did, I must say I’m a little tired of seeing them everywhere, ditto subway tile, funny because I like both, & have both , lol.. I would do medium brown for the floors.

why white AND ivory? the backsplash w/the ivory tile splash looks dingy w/the white cabs.

I'd say, forget the backsplash for now, just choose the cabs and countertop, see how it looks, and then choose your tile. you can live without it for a few weeks.

as for the flooring, choose that first. then take a sample of the flooring w/your cabinet door to the slab yard and choose your countertop.

I don't like any of your choices all together.

the dark cabs are fine, but not that tile or even that flooring.

you could also do a dark island and white perimeter cabs.

Been there with a spec house i.e. there are "packages" of combos you have to adhere to. The ivory cabinets and natural floor are my pick. Very lovely and timeless, and since you said you'll have a counter with warm veining, stay away from the grays. Grays are cool.

I like the ivory the best, but all options look nice. Maybe give this a read https://seremodeling.com/how-to-plan-a-kitchen-remodel

Is that your actual layout? Is this an open floor plan? Are the floors running throughout the house? Personally - I am not a fan of white cabinets, I prefer the off white. I do like the darl cabinets but would need to see an actual sample - if it is too gray - then no. With the off white cabinets I would do a more midtone floor, not so light.

    Good luck!
