Colour regret with new grey shed

last modified: 9 days ago

I’m having colour regret now that the grey shed is up (forgot we even picked that colour). It looks really plain and bland, like it was never painted.

There will be steel raised garden beds beside it (in the colour Monument). Any ideas on how to make the area look more finished?

UPDATE:

Thanks I've decided to paint it a more neutral tone.

Some really nice decorative ideas out there but at the end of the day, it's like putting lipstick on a (not cute) pig, you'll be able to tell I'm trying to hide something.

Background story is that when we first moved in, my partner was so excited to have a backyard that he immediately bought a shed, not considering the fact we might be redoing the landscaping. And he bought a huge one...it can fit 2 goft carts in it. There was only 2 colour choices, the black one would have been too hot.

You would get better suggestions if you could post a photo much further back & wider showing context.

Thanks however we're still landscaping, it's just all mulch and dirt.

Think we should have got the shed, else I now have to design around it.

Can the sides be painted? A dark color in Charcoal or Forest Green would help it recede visually.

With all the shed styles available.........why that?

    Why the squashed entry?

What is the look of the house it shall relate to?

    What is being stored inside?

For me, unless you can show /tell a reason? I'd be knocking it down.

Show the home, the property.....something to give me a reason to say, yeah, it will look great: )

From what little we see I would agree the color is not the issue. Can you take a pic that shows us more it's context? What it's like compared to the rest of the yard, the house or garage it might be near. You say you are landscaping. What are the plans? Yes it makes sense to place the large immovable object and design around it, but we can't help with nothing else to go on.

Would think a metal shed could be painted any color that you like.

NOTE TO DESIGN DILEMMA POSTERS AND READERS:

Exteriors: Stand way back and take a photo so we can see setting, proporation, landscaping, neighbors. Take a closeup and anotehr one showing the material finish.

Interiors: Take at least four photos of all side of an ENTIRE SPACE--all four sides of it so we can see multiple ways a Dilemma can be fixed.

Paint it to match your house if you prefer a less industrial look.

Plant a large shrub or small tree in front of it or a climbing vine.

For sure painting it monument grey would be an improvement. And lots of nice landscaping.

I don’t think the color is the problem; it’s more due to the shed’s style and in any color, will still feel basic.

Given the proximity to the retaining wall, adding decent landscaping in front won’t be possible. Maybe focus on how to improve the shed itself and trim will give it more character.

The biggest impact though will be addressing the prominent right side. There are lots of ideas on line.

Paint it add a rellis so many things can be done and until we see the rest of the yard and house that is a s far as we go.

I cannot comment on the colour without seeing the surroundings and what your house looks like. However of all the sheds available on the market, I must say that's a rather plain looking shed.

What is the tile looking structure to the right of it? What is the sage looking fence on the wall behind it? I get that you have to landscape, but we still need to see the surrounding area to make suggestions.

I agree. It is pretty ugly and I don't think paint is going to cure it all. I'd paint it as dark as possible - urban bronze or tricorn to diminish the lines in the structure. Then add a pergola with something beneath it on the right side.
