1958 ranch needs curb appeal! Suggestions?

Our new-to-us home needs an exterior update - and a new roof and garage door. The home isn't really MCM. I was thinking white trim and a black roof and garage door. Any suggestions? The new walkway is bluestone and the brick is red. The house faces south.

Consider a medium gray or charcoal roof vs black. Agree with PCC regarding a garage door with windows. A black or dark garage door can look off and/or pull too much focus, especially with an up-front garage. Better to keep the focus on your front door/entry area.

    black roof is too severe.

for trims and garage door, a green would be a great compliment to the red brick.

any of these SW colors would be fantastic options. the extisting color of the roof shingles is better than selecting a harsh black.

The gray/greens from Patricia and Lyn are all nice options. Herb Bouquet from BM might be close. Another good one with red brick might be Retreat from SW.

I like cream trim with red brick. I'd do a medium charcoal roof, rather than black. The house itself is pretty. I don't see much need for an update. The landscaping is uninspired, but no one's gardens look good this time of year. Wait a month or so until this start coming up and ask for help with the landscaping --- unless you discover a beautiful garden.

I wonder if you painted certain elements--- the garage, the siding, front door sidelight trim, bay window supports--- in a rich reddish brown, then the triangle over the garage would make sense and tie it into the rest of the house.

The gray/greens are nice with the lighter brick as shown above, but your brick is a different colour. Less variegated, less pink and more orange and much darker.

The house has a lot of heavy trim. The garage is very prominate, and the gable roof so much higher than the other roof lines.

I suggest a wood garage door, and the same stain on the garage door. Peak would be black

Black roof, black trim to minimize, black bricks.

If that is too much black for you, yes, do white with black, but definitely wood stained garage door.

You can stain a concrete driveway to enhance its appearance, increase curb appeal, and improve durability.

Your dark orange/red brick looks good with the existing brown roof colour. Black would look good too, or a dark gray. Whichever you choose, I'd do the garage door in a similar dark colour. The classic colour combinatoin of red brick Georgian homes is red brick, dark roof, white/cream trim. Yours is not Georgian but the colour combination still looks good.

The gable above the garage door isn't particularly attractive. Maybe when you redo the roof, it can be pared back to be even with the roof. In any case, I'd paint it a dark colour similar to the garage door, to de-emphasize it.

Dark colours recede visually. Painting the garage door dark will de-emphasize it and let the focus go to the front door and the pretty window. A white garage door pops.

I added some evergreen shrubs. Leave some space for annuals in front of them.

A gray roof would also work nicely with the new walkway.

Learn about cool roofs before replacing the roof.

I like the green paint combines with your red colonial brick.

I would not use black on your roof, or anywhere else on your exterior.. Its too harsh for your house. I would however, use a darker charcoal. Its a bit softer look than the stark black. Charcoal should go very well with your brick too.

I had a brick house that was similar in color to yours. I chose a taupe color that was close to my mortar color for trim, including soffits and fascia, and a deep teal for my front door. My garage door was the same taupe color as the trim. I would definitely consider a charcoal versus black roof and also look into having the siding removed from the front garage gable. Perhaps you can even have brick installed that matches your current brick to fill in the space. Otherwise, just paint it to match your brick. IMO, your garage door would benefit from some windows to break up the expanse.

The main thing that dates the house is the popped-out area at the peak of the gable. Here's the house with that removed and an extra trim piece added to the diagonal roof edges to create a shadow line. Agree with charcoal for the roof, garage door, and gable triangle to relate to the bluestone better than black would.
