What is the purpose of the larger island? Any seating like in the proposed island sink rendering?

Where will the Breakfast table go? How does the coffee bar work if there is no Breakfast table, and it is not optimally placed for Dining/Living/transition space access? What is the disproportionate unused space around the island for and where is access to outdoor living?

The drawing needs more detail, more adjacent rooms shown, and to show the overhead header where a beam intersects the space with the proper thickness of walls there. The beam is a design element and dictates the separation of space below it.

to me all that accomplishes is to create a very awkward space. not only does it create a barrier through the space it looks completely unbalanced.

skip the island and leave the peninsula along with a table in the front if the sliders.

The space would be solely kitchen, eliminating the breakfast nook that just gathers junk. we have a “formal” dining area that is our daily seater. So I am not worried about a loss of a table as I would gain it back in seating at the island. We have 6 kids 6 and under & this kitchen lacks the storage and space we need. My goal with the island is to have one large enough to seat all the kids, add cabinetry front and back for additional storage & install 2 dishwashers one on each side of the sink to avoid the multiple loads of dishes after every meal and rather be “one and done” with the task. This house will be our forever home & this is the only inadequate space for our family & frankly for the rest of the home. making this space kitchen only how would you then balance it & accomplish what we are trying to?

I think we need more info. what assumed was a slider seems to actually be a pathway into another room. i was going to suggest you expand the kitchen on the perimeter and change the slider to a single door in the outer corner. can you label each space and add dimensions. i will say the island looks massive and you probably wouldnt find a counter that large but without measurements i cant really say.

there are many very accomplished members here on kitchen design, hopefully some if them will see your post.

Graphically it does not appear you have the space for island seating with that layout. A proper dimensioned as-built would help determine that.

Backing up though, it is unclear what the scope of remodel is. Your proposed kitchen rendering looks like it could be reusing everything, except adding glass uppers, converting to a hood, and converting to an island instead of peninsula. Or, a gut and completely new kitchen that coincidentally matches most of the existing layout. Your appetite for moving plumbing, or moving the kitchen, is unknown.

If the latter, and according to your needs, I would suggest looking at using the entire space (both rooms) as available for the kitchen design, rather than just lengthening an island. The adjacent rooms are critical, as I don't see one on the drawing and pics (a Foyer through the opening, Office has captured the Dining, or you walk past a Powder Room).
