Using TeeJet Nozzles on a Valley Industries 2218 Spray Gun

I currently have a Valley Industries Universal 2218 Series Deluxe Spray Gun. I want to use TeeJet nozzles on it, but I am having great difficulty. This is all connected to a PetraTools HD5000 6.5 gallon powered sprayer on wheels. Not a pressure washer. Just a backpack type sprayer for lawns and such.

Here are the parts that I currently own:

1. Valley Industries Universal 2218 Series Deluxe Spray Gun

2. Spraying Systems Co. QJ1/4T

3. TeeJet 114440A adapter

4. TeeJet AI11006-VS

5. TeeJet AIXR11004VP

6. TeeJet TT11004-VP

7. TeeJet TF-VP4

8. TeeJet XR11004-VS XR

9. 100 Mesh Tip Strainer

10. 50 Mesh Tip Strainer

11. Washers/gaskets that fit 114440A - I can't tell if they are TeeJet or not

I can get the QJ1/4T threaded onto the end of the 2218 spray gun. But, two problems — 1) It leaks badly at the base and 2) the 2218 wand has a slender end that protrudes into the center of the QJ1/4T almost all the way to the front, so it is impossible to put a mesh strainer in it. I will attach pictures.

I wanted to use the AI11006-VS but it looks like I will need the 114443A adapter for that, right? Because it certainly does not fit in the 114440A.

Furthermore, I have multiple places where I have used a 3/8 barb and every one of them leaks. I cranked down on the clamps to no avail. I am 100% sure I am using 3/8 ID hose on 3/8 barbs. The fit is tight, I just can't stop the leaking. Should I try pipe dope? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.
