Siding colors advice

last month
last modified: last month

Hello friends. We are updating the exterior of our home. Need a new roof and siding unfortunately but want to update the look. Most of the homes in our neighborhood are beige/tan. I'd say 90% of them. Those that have recently updated have added color siding. Mostly Blues. We are considering a gray-green sage like color and wondered people's opinion. Mostly we want something different but since its a vinyl, we dont want to make a 25year mistake since we cant repaint. So hoping the color doesn't instantly date the house.

Not sure why it wouldn't let me add a photo, but here is the house original as well as mocked up with Mountain Fern.

I like the mountain fern - gives it a lot of character.

I like it too … obviously you don’t live in my area. EVERY new build or remodel is done in white w/ black trim. Every one.

    Green looks nice.

K Laurence, same here…all white with black.

Taking the roof line of the main house as the default, I see a salt box. IMO, everything should be one color. Work with the style and be different from your neighbors.

Thank you all. With the investment, we want to give it character. It's difficult with this large wall that is southern facing. We considered going darker but it jjust felt overwhelming. Our safe option is Pebble. Which is nearly identiidentical to our current color.

    We also considered ageless slate.

Great suggestion. It's certainly tricky with such a huge wall. So this is the side of our home. Our front door is on the west side.

One design element we added was shake to the top section of the gable to break it up a bit. Im hesitant to do horizontal with this vinyl. Since the width is nearly 40', there would be a lot of seems. But you've given me some good thoughts! Thank you!

Shake is a great idea. I'd do the larger upper triangle.

I thought this was the front!

Here is a render. It includes the back od the home. Which shows the majority of our siding. Above the tan line in the upper gable is shake.

The other color i like is charcoal smoke. But the real sample feels very dark. Note, the middle horizontal trim would color match siding. Would frame in sand cocolor trim aand Trim the seem below the shake at the top.

Have you considered paitng the brick to match or better compliment the upper section color selection to ease the eye?

I think the sage/gray-green is a good choice. It’s different without being too bold, and it usually ages well over time.

With a wall that large, breaking it up with shake on the upper gable is a smart move. It adds some dimension without needing multiple colors.

DON’T paint the brick. I think the green goes very nicely with the brick.
