If new counters I'd go with smaller 24" single bowl sink assuming you have a dw. Added counter is valuable.

I would definitely choose a white for the countertop.

Laminate is coming back in to favor, lots of great options.

Gravity is going to make the room very gloomy. Gray has been done... and over done.

if you want a gray tone, sample SW Agreeable gray.

will compliment the backsplash AND the cabinets.

Your black appliances will stick out like a sore thumb with light counters. Be aware of the domino effect with your decisions

have you tried a sample of Gravity? it's a gray that leans lavender.

paint a sample swatch right near the cabs and lets see how it looks.

This is the suede Eternal Charcoal from Silestone. I have this one in gray and it holds up great.

also, make sure your bulbs are all 4000K and not warmer (under 3200)

stick in some LED under cabinet lighting too

and if possible, consider doing a counter-depth fridge. the one you have really sticks out too far. counter-depth is only 33" or so.

one other suggestion. since you're short on storage, you could maximise by adding some wood shelving here. if you can DIY go to a lumber yard and get your own 1.5X8" wood boards. sand and coat w/clear coat. get brackets or fittings that screw into the wall studs.

A few sites, including MSI, have visualizer tools. You can upload pictures of your kitchen and get an idea of how different counters would look.

Since you have a short granite backsplash plus tile above it, be aware that there might be some tile damage when they remove the short granite backsplash. Do you have any matching tile to be able to tile all the way down to a new counter, or are you planning to repeat the short counter splash with the tile above?

What is on the other end of the space - the space beyond the peninsula? I see the window over the sink but I'm wondering if there is natural light coming from the other end of the space as well. I'm asking because I personally like dark granite (honed or leathered) but I'm wondering how much light you get.

The kitchen leads into an open style living/dining area. lots of dark furniture and a grey sofa.

I thought the colour looked good in the mock up of the room. The floor also needs to be replaced. This picture has the new wall colour and new floor colour. i would welcome your choices for colours of both. I also love your idea about the shelves to fill in that dead space. If I’m being 100% honest I have been using chatAPG for design advice until now.

Choosing a wall colour comes into play when all the permanent items in a room are in place, so after the floor, cabinets, countertops , back splash after the previous 3 are installed, and THEN the paint colour, because the other factors affect how it will look in the space.

I believe that everything in the house is warm and adding a cool color like that will feel off. You also can't tell color by mockup. I went through 7 different samples to find the right color for my bedroom. You have to have painted samples to move around the room in all times of the day and night to see what it will truly look like. I'd look for a simple off white for all the rooms and definitely a darker countertop in the kitchen.

Yes, sorry I forgot to mention the floor. What is currently on the floor in that room is a very cheap laminate. The littlest amout of water on the floor, and we have 2 huskies, and the edges start to peel up and warp. It looks like it is made of paper. It has to go. It looks good in the picture but under the dining room table it is all coming up.

My main issue, or benefit is the flow threw from the kitchen to the dining/living room area. With no real division between the breakfast bar and dining room I can’t see the kitchen being a differnt color and strugle to find a color that compliments both the kitchen design and the main room furniture and new floor.

Can I pick a floor color just based on the current furniture and looking for something updated without an idea of the wall color?

This may be a silly question but if you paint a few different colours on your wall do you have to do more coats to cover them up when you find your color?

The only natural light is the window by the sink. It is a semi so no windows diwn the wall.

Go with a light colored counter

The best way to test paint color is to go to the dollar store and buy some pieces of poster board. Then paint 2 coats of sample colors on the poster board but leave about a 2-3" border around it. Then you're seeing the true color without the current wall color changing it. You can move it around the room to look at it in different light at different times of day.

I live in Florida and have my grout cleaned on a regular basis. Just make sure they also seal it when they're finished. It's not very expensive. I paid about $430 for 500 s.f. plus my shower. Most places do have a minimum charge though. Once it's done, you have to use a floor cleaner that is Ph neutral or you risk deteriorating the sealer.

Could you post a close up picture of your backsplash so we can see the true color of it?

Here is the current backsplash and thank you for the paint test advice that is really smart.

The color is much different than your original photos, where it looks like a dark gray.

The tiles have what looks like a clear coating and the light reflects off it making it look lighter. When there is no direct light on it it looks darker. I didn't notice how much darker until I looked back at the earlier pictures.
