Lyn is right about height of the TV for viewing. I am not sure about your style but that wall is crying out to be fabulous so IMO check out Besta from Ikea to really utilize that wall space These are two very differnt ideas but the bonus with Best is you design what you need and want , I lik the system to have the TV not hemmed in too much so you can always go bigger and it will look custom

@Patricia Colwell Consulting has a great suggestion re: using Besta units in order to build a media center. You can literally do any type of media cabinet using these units (modern/contemporary/transitional/traditional/etc.)

It all depends on how you configure the units + what type of door/drawer fronts you decide to use on the units (the units come in two different heights and depths). Some use Besta units to make a long continuous floating media center:

In the below photos, the larger Besta units were used + legs added:

The person below simply added different door pulls in order to make their Besta units look higher end:

The unit below uses wood veneer oak IKEA doors for the Besta unit:

Besta units can be painted - you do need to use a primer before painting them (there are many tutorials on how to paint IKEA non- wood furniture):

Below is a more traditional look due to the doors. I like that they added floating shelves:

The unit below runs the entire length of a long wall - I couldn't grab a better screen shot from the video - there is a symmetrical arched bookshelf on the other side of the wall:

They actually used Besta doors/drawer fronts sold at IKEA (there are many third party sellers of IKEA doors/drawer fronts - however, they are more expensive than purchasing from IKEA). They painted IKEA wood veneer doors/drawer fronts:

There are also many other IKEA products that can be used to make really beautiful media consoles/walls.

This next two units below were built using IKEA Havsta units (they are made out of solid wood - and have shelf units that can be added above the cabinets - although many people use Billy Bookcase units because they are very inexpensive) -

If you look up IKEA media wall hacks, you will find many projects that have been posted. There are many that no one would ever think used products purchased at IKEA.

You've been given some wonderful ideas and instiraption photos here. Would choose one of them as a starting point for your wall. Right now the tv and stand look like they have been placed without much thought.

You definitely need something a bit heavier and longer. The issue you have to deal with is the fact that you have a register that can't be blocked. I suggest something with an open bottom. You can keep the t.v. to the left as you face it and balance the other side with a plant or artwork or something decorative.

Your TV screen is not the correct size for the room.

Select a minimal wall mounted media cabinet. They're very inexpensive.

Relocate the undersized TV to a bedroom.

The larger screens are very inexpensive and you'll enjoy the larger screen for movies and sporting events. A 70" TV at Best Buy is $299!

I'm guessing but your area rug is likely not large enough for the seating or the room either.

Mounting the TV (and an ikea unit) to the wall gives you more floor space for grandkids and the TV can be in the exact same spot so everyone can see it.

I should have been more specific, the tv and stand have to stay for right now.

i am hoping for ideas for both sides of tv and stand and also ideas on what to put on the shelves for some visual interest (I am anti clutter)

honestly, the stand is the problem. it doesn't work in the room, it projects too far forward, and it's too small for the wall.

you wanted help w/that wall and everyone is telling you "the stand does not work" .

wall mounting the tv looks better, but if you can't swing the bracket, try and find a longer console. craigslist, FB marketplace, Ikea, target, DIY, are all inexpensive options.

mounting it to the wall (not too high) gives you a cleaner looks. get a console table like this under it.

or, find a piece like this, put some artwork around it, and get a proper pot for that snake plant

Seems you want the "answer" without providing the full context. What would an interior designer see if you invited one into your home? Just this wall? !

Show all the rest as previously asked? Explain the "tv stand must remain" as spending money around a somewhat "wrong" element when the money could go to the right element? Might make more sense and yield a better result.

" What to put on float shelves" is either some artifacts you already own.......or something you will need to buy, and adding those to a composition that is already suffering a proportion you find unpleasing.......is going to be the "cluttered" appearance you admit to finding unattractive.

All of the suggestions you are getting above, are ways to better the look of the wall, and ARE about proportion that is pleasing... In this case pleasing to .......your eye : )

With grandchildren in the house, a wall mounted tv would be a lot safer.

I agree that the tv stand is way too small and not a good visual anchor for that wall. And if grands are playing right next to it, it's also a safety issue.
If it's a new purchase and you don't want to get rid of it, repurpose it to another room. You can buy wicker baskets and use it as storage for toys or linens or make it into shelves for books and decorative items.
