I like the wild rose tall glasses, but imo they restrict usage because of the design. Is your dinnerware, tablecloth etc. solid? They won't work at Christmas, which you mentioned as a holiday. I would go for a solid color. Not the ball jars. How many people do you usually have?

What exactly do you want to be enabled to do? To have matching sets of 12 high-end glasses for various beverages? To feel free to enjoy entertaining with non-matching glasses? I hereby enable you to do either! POOF!

If you only care about matching drinkware twice a year, you can rent glasses, so you don’t have to store what you seldom use.

You can buy plastic glasses and either wash them or recycle them.

You can buy very nice, very affordable glasses at Ikea.

Personally I don’t decorate for holidays, and that includes avoiding holiday-themed tableware of any kind. You can drink eggnog or mulled wine just as well out of undecorated glasses as you can out of glasses featuring holly wreaths or red and green anything. And you can drink lemonade out of Mason jars, but I might draw the line when it comes to really good champagne.

It may just be a question of where you store them… put the pretty sets in a spot where they will be seen.. store the others in an easily accessible spot…for daily and more casual use.. that way daily breakage will not effect the ones you use for special occasions…

btydrvn, that's good advice. All my glasses are tucked away, and so I forget what nice glasses I could enjoy using more often. I just keep using my sour cream glasses for everything—except bubbly; for that I remember to bring out the flutes!

I do have an another place for my really precious antique stemware…I mostly just admire them…

Not mine lol, but I do love a nice table setting. Enjoy mixing!

But occasionally hubby brings a special bottle of wine or liqueur…that I enjoy more in these glasses

I would buy something in clear glass, not a pattern… as it will be more flexible with different table settings. You can buy excellent used cut crystal now as a lot of people are downsizing their glassware collection… if you like that sort of thing. I would not use the mason jars. I like the suggestion of picking something that is multipurpose…as mentioned by Maureen above. Buy a set with enough for your table setting… for the number of guests that you serve maximum. If storage is a problem, just keep the boxes and pack them away in between holidays. Leave out just enough for your own use on a regular basis. Buy a couple of extra for breakage. Then use your smaller collections at the times that that is appropriate.

We are a very breaky family…so I purchase whatever comes in a sufficient number that feels good in my hand! Homegoods, TJMaxx, Target crate and Barrel, vintage…

Another glass breaker here...for wine, I stick to clear glasses to see the color of the wine itself and have been known to source replacements at thrift stores.

Thanks all! I ordered the Wild Rose glasses and will take a quick photo of the Easter table. I did check around to see what was available second hand, but it was the usual sets of 3, 5 or 7 glasses - lots of breaking going on. I don’t have any plate or napkin patterns on my table so patterned glasses should look fine. It will only be 8-10 of us for Easter.

Christmas is another story - I just started hosting (20 adults) and was able to find several sets of coordinated dinner plates for the meal. It was buffet since seating was in three sections - dining table, second table, and peninsula. Secondhand Christmas glasses are really easy to find if I choose to get more than what I already have. I think the Wild Rose glasses can go from March to Thanksgiving and we all hibernate in January and February.

Consider IKEA for inexpensive glassware. No patterns.

Consider stemless glasses. They are often easier to hold.

I was recently served wine in this glass and it made a great appearance on the table.

That sounds like a good solution. If you want something for Christmas you could just order plain glasses and then they can fill in mixed with your patterned glasses if you end up with extra company for some reason.

I love those, Beverly. I gave my sister a set of flutes like that for a housewarming gift.

I love to buy pretty glasses at thrift stores, garage and especially estate sales. I don't care if they match at all, but like to have each place setting coordinate nicely with the other glasses at that place setting. They don't have to match their neighbor on either side. If I use stemware, then I want stemware at each place, same with tumblers. They don't have to match and I find it much more fun and interesting to mix things up, especially with gorgeous vintage glasses (which are very affordable to thrift).
