Does Residential Code require outlets on both sides of the kitchen sin

I am renovating my kitchen and had the electrician roughing in all the outlets while I was at work yesterday. He added an outlet on the right side of the kitchen sink, which I don't want. I already have a 4 plug outlet on the adjacent facing wall, about 24" from right side of sink. Additionally, there is an outlet on the left side of the sink (over an 11" counter and cabinet). next to that is the fridge.

So do I have to have an outlet within a certain distance on both sides of the sink? Can I get rid of one? It's a small kitchen and I hate that outlets will be scattered all over! I live in NC.

Not that I've ever heard, but look into the codes regulations pertaining to your area, and take it up with the electrician who could explain his decisions

It is code that you have an outlet within 24" (I think) of your sink. But each state code is different and as long as you have one you might not need the other.

Exactly, so it's good to double check. But your electrician will be up do date with the codes and regulations and can get you that info

Yes. No more than 24". Both the NEC and IRC apply in NC.

You may actually be able to not have one on the left side if the counter is under 12".
