You could also add some fun colored/patterned shades to your chandy for color.

Actually, the neighbors on the left have a direct line into our kitchen and I have to hide every a.m. as their teenage boys get in the car. I do have patterned shades on the chandy - that was a something I liked that came with the house! I went to a local place yesterday and they recommended tie back panels on the left and right and a very small roman on the doors. Also, she said make the tie back panel lower (on the wood trim) rather than high so its more eye level with the small roman shades. I don't know though,

I just don't know if tie back drapes are a bit dated? How do you avoid the drapes looking too formal. I just want current. I have simple panels in the family room. Originally I thought of doing 4 straight panels with a rod all the way across, but now I think that may be strange since the panels would have to be super thin and would it be annoying near the door handle.

Why not just do the roman shades, privacy without all the bulky fabric. I am not a huge fabric lover so hopefully someone will chime in that does.

I really like the shades idea. I would soften them with drapes in between. Two other options for you would be plantation blinds or mirrored privacy film. The plantation blinds may be too heavy looking and may obscure your light too much even when open. Here are some pics of all three options.

I like the idea of roman shades - maybe it woudn't be overpowering for the room but still gives the room some pop. Question - has anyone had any issue with roman shades plus blinds on a fiberglass door?? I just don't want everything to pull off. The very nice installer from Lowe's who is putting up the faux wood blinds said no problem with the fiberglass door as far as he is concerned.

If you are installing blinds on the outside of the door, I would not add roman shades, one or the other.

I had originally planned on doing four narrow panels with a thick wooden rod all the way across - I really only have about 7-8 inches for each panel - then it was suggested that if I did the four very narrow panels, it would look like four little sticks coming down. Plus the opening/closing of the door she thought would cause the one panel to blow outside.

The blinds would have to go on the outside. So wooden blinds and roman shades are a bad combination for any window- or is it just because its a door?

I have never seen the combination period. I would do Roman Shades, not the wooden blinds in your room;)

Another reason for the blinds on the door, besides privacy, is the fact that the glass on the two door units is too narrow - the company installed the wrong doors - good news I got the doors for free which made them seem a lot less annoying. However, visually I wanted to put wider wooden blinds on the door to give the impression that the glass is wider. Now I am completely second guessing myself.

Maybe it would just be easier to plant a few large trees to block the view from the neighbors and leave the windows/door alone;)

Well, I've already ordered custom wood blinds which I have throughout my entire house. I have simple panel drapes in my other rooms which look fine with wood blinds. I guess I need to figure out what type of drapery looks best with wood blinds. If panel drapes are the only thing that will look right, then I guess I will need to figure out a way to do panels - which is what I wanted to do in the first place. I have to do the wood blinds so my family can eat dinner without holding their hands up in the air to block the direct sunlight coming in at dinner hour. It also bakes in that room - but I don't want total darkness which I'm afraid would happen with roman shades that I would have to keep all the way down in the late afternoon - I was thinking wood blinds are a nice compromise.

The white blinds are going to be inside mounted for the far left and right windows - the Lowe's guy said he will do it even though the new windows technically don't have the space they recommend for hanging - but he said he could do it. For the two middle windows it is a strange narrow glass opening and no place to do an inside mount - so the window blinds would be 18 inches wide thus making the glass appear wider than it is. The glass is only like 12 inches wide, very dated looking.

Wood blinds can have decorative tapes, which would had some color. What about some decorative painting above the windows/door? Add a table runner in a print that you like. I also like the iron scroll idea. I have used that in my own home.

Thank you - my wood blinds are on order. I should have put that in my original dilemna, I think I did the first time I typed it but then it got deleted and I had to restart. I guess I see drapes and wooden blinds everywhere so I didn't think it was a chose one or the other option.

awtmom- you are getting it all confused. It is OK to do wood blinds with curtain panels. It is OK to do wood blinds only. It is OK to do Roman Shades. What is not OK, is to do wood blinds and Roman shades together.

I think wood blinds will give it a nice clean look and if you want to add a little color to your room consider some tie back swag style top treatment and some matching table accessories.

Disney World - it will be my boys first trip (ages 7 and 9) so I am trying to get it right for them the first time!

I love Disneyworld. Hope you are staying right on the Disney property. I love this place as an adult too!!
