Concrete driveway

We had a concrete driveway installed in August 2024. It's only been a year and a half, but it's already severely chipped.

The contractor said it was due to salt. However, we rarely park our car outside, so we find that hard to believe.

This year, we're planning to install a concrete patio in our backyard. The contractor says they can repair the driveway if we have them install the backyard patio. They can't repair it without the backyard work, but they'll do the sealing free of charge.

My questions are:

  1. Do you really think salt is the cause? Another contractor said it will get worse and will need replacing in a few years.
  2. If you were in our position, what would you do?
