Be sure when you plant that the graft and root flare are above the soil level.

Depending on your location, you can buy the paper wrap at any garden center. It is to protect young tree bark from winter wind.

I'd like to be sure what this 'wrap' is before giving an opinion. Hence the request for a picture. Afaik SeniorBallon is in the PNW, so possibly winter wind protection may not be an issue.

There are various reasons why a tree wrap may be applied.

• Protection against winter sun scald and frost
• Deter deer browse and/or antler rubbing
• Avoid other predators - rabbits, squirrels, etc.
• Protect young sapling against transportation damage
• Avoid mechanical damage from mowers or string trimmers.

Whether any of these may be appropriate to your situation will determine if the wrap needs to reman in place or can be safely removed.
