Norway spruces or green giants are good choices if you need 8ft+ screening. They will do better with some sun so don’t site them in the wooded area.

You can plant a mix of ornamental trees, shrubs and perennials in front of the trees.

You can use soil to create a long wide berm for this new planted area which can give you 1-2’ more in screening height.

In my heavy deer area, the deer will browse evergreens so consider deer spray for the bottom halves of the trees at least during winter.

I'd be thinking about marcescent trees in the woods, like hornbeams, before a wall of evergreens at the edge. IME, shrub borders in front of woods are not low maintenance because the woods wants to spread into the shrubbery.

If you plant trees in the woods (which can be lovely) or in a mixed border, consider giving the young trunks winter protection. If your heavy deer population is like mine, the males can do significant damage quickly when rubbing the velvet off their antlers. Or if you have rabbits, etc. that enjoy stripping young bark.

If you do a perimeter berm/border of mixed evergreens, trees, shrubs, perennials and/or bulbs, please no straight rows of side-by-side evergreens and allow lots of room for growth/spread as @mad_gallica (z5 Eastern NY) points out. Done right, it is a lovely effect to blend from lawn to natural woods while creating year-round privacy. Also take into account whether you may need drip lines or soaker hoses or water bags until the plantings get established.
