Who designed your new addition? What will it look like?

A transom will give you a view of the porch ceiling from the inside, and not add much light.

I designed the addition. An architect drew the plans. I want to keep everything with a look close to that of the original. I want to add extra windows though because the addition will be blocking off several.

Here is a picture of the living room before the remodel. The cielings are 9ft, but you can't tell in the picture. The room will be enlarged, and the new door will go where the window is.

Here is a picture of my kitchen. Its original door has a transom above.

I was wondering about the outside -- what it looks like, or what it will look like once complete.

Could you post an exterior elevation or perspective, and a floor plan?

Are you saying the new front door will be going in where the window to the immediate right of the fireplace is?

Which door? One you have in your mind, one like your kitchen door, or your old door placed in a new opening? I'm a bit confused.

I have had custom doors made. Once by a local carpenter. He was a nightmare and so was the process. Once, ordered through my local lumbar yard who dealt with a reputable vendor that makes custom doors. Call your local lumbar yard and see what companies they deal with that can make you a custom door.

However, @PPF is spot on. More windows will not get you more light if the porch ceiling is blocking the light. Check out the window at different times of day and how much light it gets. You will just be getting the same kind of light only more of it.

I have a transom-and-side-lights front door - and a porch. My house also faces south. There is very little sunlight making it to my entryway.
But it’s very pretty. 😊

A standard 80" tall door with transom and/or sidelites would be appropriate. Check in with your architect. It should fit with 96" tall porch lid but someone should measure xacts.

An 80" door takes 82" high opening to fit, so the transom should be 12" or less to fit. Some are 14" which may be tight.
