IMO open shelving only works when the plan was too display things hat really cry out for display , not a bunch of stuff with no meaning only filling shelves. Why a sectional where everyone sits in a row and only 2 people are comfy because they got the arm rests ?For me the color sceme posted is boring , it needs hits of color so some awesome art to draw color from is where I might start. I think table lamps and floor lamps are a lot better in LRs than a fixture lighting the ceiling. Art is something I never choose for my clients it should be what you love and I often design a whole space around the art that clients love.

Now that I have voiced my opinions how about you telling us what you like and more to the point what style you love.

    What are the room dimensions.

I agree that your room does not seem suited to a sectional.I would use a large sofa and 2 chairs. BOOKSHELVES beside the fireplace would be lovely…..please add books!

^ agree, a few large pieces of art go a long way (i usually prefer fewer, larger pieces than a lot of smaller items on display, but that’s just a me thing)

Am going to discourage you from buying a sectional. They are very hard to place in most rooms. Sofas, loveseats and chairs provide you with much more flexibility.

What’s the size of the room? Looks too small for a sectional. How many people do you need to have seating for?

Are these your furnishings? I like the two couches but the art/decor on the left wall is too small and hung much too high. The tv is also too high.

It’s a lovely room, though. Nice bones.

I love sectionals and can see how one might work in your room but it really depends on how big the space is.

FUNCTION FUNCTION FUNCTION first then style. Book shelves/open display should be for books you NEED to story or you have a collection you would love to show off. Why do you feel you want display on each side? I would take the TV down and hang it to the left of the fireplace on an arm that allows you to move it out and point it to seating. The sectional phenom hit in the late 70s and died quickly. It will again because they are sooo uncomfortable and cumbersome. I agree you need a new plan. No seating facing the room's feature and function, TV and fireplace, makes no sense. I don't think a chandalier belongs in a livingroom. Get some great lamps and tables to put them on. Your photos are too small and hung too high. Is it the beginning of a gallery wall? Art pieces can be hung higher than photos.

I like sectionals but how many people will be watching tv together/at the same time. But even with a sofa and chairs, only the sofa (I'm assuming) would be facing the tv, again assuming that is the fuction of this room. So the most comfortable spot for watching tv would be on either the section of the sectional facing the tv or a sofa facing the the tv.

A large mirror to the right of the fireplace would reflect the windows and create a great sense of depth. Pair it only with a wispier or shorter plant to show off the mirror.

A simple open shelf wall unit on the left reserved for coffee table books and magazines laid flat. Things people actually pick up and browse through.

I like sectionals to sprawl on or curling up watching TV.

Add Kilim throw pillows for color and texture.

The space has no focal point. This room needs art with some color to act as the focal point and determine the color scheme.
