You can put your TV on the new console. We didn't have the TV stand legs either since it's an old TV, but I found this on Amazon, and it works great!

Thank u for sharing, more to think about now. Back then I was adamant to put it on the wall . I think people who mount these professionally should also guide us what is the right height etc.

Please post photos of all four walls of the room. Without seeing everything, it's difficult to provide opinions re: what color/style you should select for your console.

Also, have you looked at IKEA Besta units? They are very popular for making media consoles (among other things) - there are many ways that you can change the look of them (DIY - or order doors from third party sellers that are made specifically to fit Besta units). Besta units come in two different heights + two depths. You can use the same unit with a single door or can add a drawer(s) - you don't have to make each unit the same.

You can make the console as long as you need - just by adding the units together. Also, you can make a floating console or one that has legs and stands on the floor.

Have you tried moving the dresser that you have near the kitchen underneath the tv? It may be perfect and it’s free! Also the front feet of your couches and chairs should be on the area rug. I’d remove the smaller chair in front of the fire then relocate the larger one to the right on an angle so it’s not blocking the fireplace. I’d also remove the smaller items from the mantle.

I’d also remove the smaller of the paintings from the room.

How many inches between the wires and the top of your TV? Maybe you can keep the wires in the same place, replace your bracket with a pull down bracket, and pull the screen down and it keep it down enough to have it lowered to the correct position without having to rewire, remount everything.

I 100% agree that your TV has to be lowered. Nothing else you do to it will compensate for lowering.

BUT, I too don't understand how people can say, "just lower your TV". We had to have blocking installed behind our wall for the mount to drill into. Even if it wasn't about blocking, if you lower the TV enough and have to lower the brackets and outlets, then you have to patch and repaint the entire wall. And then won't that wall not match the other walls in the room because they were painted at a different time?

How do people just easily change the height of a mounted TV?

I thought about that dresser is 32 inches so still a gap of 15 inches. Also maybe not wide enough and since all it has is drawers maybe hard to put boxes wires in it. I actually am not sure what else can put at that spot and move the dresser to a bedroom. So I should leave that little wall above sofa with nothing on it? I don’t like that painting anyway.

Yes that’s me. I wish I was not afraid of fixing things by myself but someone who never painted a wall or even hung art or fixed anything the idea of such projects is anxiety provoking but u can always get help. Can u please also suggest what color sofa I should get or what color will look good. My next plan was to change the sofa and rug if needed and do something about the chairs. Wow that is almost everything in that space and when I say this to family they all get nervous . Me too only because I don’t want to make it worse or not better.

The same way people are advised to "just" change flooring, "just" paint an entire room(s), "just" replace an outdated island/cabinets, "just" change the garage door to wood, "just" on and on. It's so easy to spend OPM! (Other people's money).

I realize people come to Houzz for advice, but my biggest sadness on the forum is when people ask a very specific question and get advice they never asked for that is obviously out of their budget and project scope. People give great advice but it's rarely ranked in a hierarchy of "doable," i.e. doable for budget, DIY abilities, or a person's stage in life. Sometimes people just need a little lift to get them through the day while working, raising kids, etc.

So to answer your question, depending on the weight of the television (new ones are very light) and a person's DIY abilities, it CAN be very easy to lower a TV The newer ones are very light and probably don't require blocking, only screwing into studs. It's also easy if you don't snake the cords through the wall and there is no gaping hole left to hide behind the TV or to repair. But, if you have an older, heavier TV, no DIY skills or buddy with DIY skills and want the cords hidden in the wall, it's not just a "just" As a contractor friend says, "Almost anything can be done with enough time and money."

When I hear ideas, although great but way out of project scope and budget, that are given as almost mandates to a rookie remodeler, I want to scream, "Read the room!" Literally, read the room in the picture. What story is it telling you about the person? Rant over.

So @munja, tell us about you. You say the family gets nervous. What makes them nervous? Is it the budget? Is it making "mistakes" in what is selected? Is it losing pieces of furniture they find very comfortable? Is reflection on prior "failed" projects? Are there pieces with sentimental value you want to keep no matter what? What don't you like about your rug?, sofa and chairs. In your pics I see a bright sunny room, that is extremely neat. Hooray you!

I personally do not like TV stands as they are too short and instead look at buffets instead for the height.

If you don’t want to use the buffet you have, look for something on FB marketplace. Call the tv company and ask for feet that match yours. Then the tv can sit in the buffet (or whatever you choose). You need it lower and putting it on a piece of furniture is the best idea. A new buffet would be best, but you already have something that is quite stunning and will make that wall more elegant.
I would leave the rug and buy new furniture that works with it. It has nice, light happy colors in it.

Any idea what to put where the dresser is right now? It is a wide are. Extra seating will be welcome but not sure how to . It will be facing the back of sofa and that won’t be good

I would re-think the entire layout. Yes, the TV hung too high and the piece under it is too small for the wall but there are other misplaced pieces as well.

Your sofa is too large where it is now - it blocks and straddles two large entryways which creates overhang when looking from the kitchen side; only one or two seats in the entire room can really see the TV; the fireplace focal point is blocked by two chairs, and the buffet in the kitchen is very lonely on that big wall.

• In the living room, flip the sofa to the opposite side and float it off the wall so the floor register isn't covered.
• Scoot the loveseat down and more centered on the fireplace. Try to leave at least 3' between the back and the step down.
• Plan to place the TV on the wall where the small painting is now. You may be able to use the cabinet now under it so long as it doesn't obstruct traffic through the space.
• Place the larger chair at an angle to the left of the fireplace.
• Adjust the rug to center
• Angle the small chair in between the kitchen buffet and kitchen counter and hang a large piece of art above the buffet

So far, all of this is free and you aren't making any permanent changes so there isn't any reason for it to be scary. Get the family to help . If it flows and functions better, you can get the 18" mantle you like along with the stand referred to above. Hang art where the TV is now.

All your points are really good however the small wall has no connections or strength to hold the tv.

I like the art above fireplace somehow . On the other huge wall over the sofa it will look small and off centered in my opinion but I am willing to move things around and see what happens

You already have electrical switches on the small wall, it is not complicated or terribly expensive for an electrician to add an outlet. Also, you don't have to wall mount the TV again, you can get a TV stand like the one @bearbev recommended from Amazon which starts at $69 and simply place it on top of a cabinet like the one you have now.

First, rearrange the furniture and then fine tune the best solution for the TV wall. There are many excellent suggestions above such as tucking the cords inside the wall so you don't have a snakepit of cords.

I think why you are stuck is not the TV but the arrangement of the furniture seems off in relationship to the walls - it just feels all wrong. Why not move it first without dealing with the TV. Then from there see where the TV fits in. That is a cheap experiment that you can do right now. Ignore where the plug is for the TV all that can be addressed by an electrician. The wires in the wall cleans up a gnarly mess. I think when you see a furniture arrangement that works, it will be obvious where the tv will work. Get a piece of cardboard the size of the tv and paint it black so you can move it around the room as you try different furniture arrangements.

Well maybe I have the same feeling something else should tried but WHAT I guess that is what I am curious to know from others what they would do. The wall is 59 inch wide and the tv is 57 inch wide I just measured so don’t think it will do. There are only 2 other choices above the fire place that I don’t want to do and then the huge wall with the dresser and that is also like outside the actual room and too far from seating so we are left with the wall where it is right now. Coming to furniture placement that also is not so simple. To put a 3 seater either where is is or in front of dresser both are similar and people have said things against it. That is how I feel stuck I don’t like it too but then what else can I do? That is the question for u guys. Please help

A 65” TV is 57” wide, a 58” TV is 50” wide. If you get a slightly smaller TV, it will come with a stand.

I think the TV is on the right wall but do agree that it should be lowered. You're asking about new furniture. Do you need to replace it or do you feel you should based on the comments? Which furniture would you want to replace? Do you want to replace the coffee table as well? I like the colors in your rug but it feels too small because all of the furniture is set off of it. Can you just pull the sofa and loveseat forward so that the front legs sit about six inches on the rug? Then pull the coffee table so it's 18" from the 3 seater and centered on it. Your two chairs are blocking the fireplace. Do you need them for extra seating or for watching TV? If not, I would put the larger chair on an angle over by the window with the fig tree. Then remove the smaller one completely. Once all that is done, if you're happy with how it looks, you can find the right size console or buffet for under the TV. How many inches is the TV? As it is now, nothing feels connected.

Thank you for your help, really appreciated. TV is 65 inch. Horizontally it is 57 inch. I want to get new sofas. Keeping the coffee table for sure. Need extra seating when more people are around but can remove the small chair for now. Or get two new chairs not sure how they will fit .

I am going to lower the tv soon as much as I can without showing the bracket. I think it can be so that it is 42 inches off the ground. Will need a new console for tv . Need advice on colors of console and sofa. I think console will be in some shade of brown/wood maybe closer to coffee table? Sofas idk need advice

I was thinking of a rather plain closed console that does not catch attention because there are other wood objects there and lighter shade sofa that looks less bulky for this space. Scared to go too light though, maybe a dark beige or light brown like the baseline color of carpet .

I guess the console doesn’t have to be expensive mostly it just sits there. But it cannot be v cheap looking either. Shade or color is the main question

I think a console with legs is better. It doesn't feel so heavy in the room. Wood colors are hard to get accurate online but I'd look for something close to your coffee table so it doesn't look too mismatched. You also have to keep the color of your floors in mind.
