To me, the issue is that the TV overwhelms the space. Do you need your TV there? We have a projector and a drop-down screen, allowing us to place the TV in a convenient place. It works very well if you stick to TV after dark, less well if your windows are letting in a lot of light.

I find the white tile to be a bit too bright, too. If you had a dark column of fireplace and tv, it might work better.

I agree the TV is big! Yes we have to keep it there. I was thinking of painting the background and tile iron ore. Possibly

I think the main issue is that the fireplace is too dark and heavy compared to everything else.

With your floors and the future pine ceiling, I’d lean toward lightening it up. Iron Ore could work, but it will still make that center section stand out quite a bit.

I’d probably also recommend something like BeverlyFLADezigner - keep the cabinets wood, they work with your floor; go with Shoji White on the walls; paint the fireplace a lighter color

That should balance things without adding more visual weight.

From my computer, i see too many clashing colors. The floor has a pink tone, the cabs are yellowish, the counter tops appear tan and the shelves appear pinkish. Since the floor stays, the cabs need to be a color, blue, green, shade of your choice. I think I would also paint the shelves to match the cabs.

As to the mantel, the brackets need to disappear, whether by painting them whatever color the fireplace wall ends up, or with a different mounting system. Is the mantel shelf supporting the TV, or is the TV wall mounted? It also looks like the mantel shelf is not in line with the side shelves (it may just be the angle of the pic), but if it's not it has added another element of discord.

If the TV has to stay there, then I like Celery’s image with Shoji White wall paint.
