looking for good hosta searchable database

looking to search by mature size and leaf color. I recall accessing one years ago, but can't find any bookmarks for it. Ideally flower color too but I'll accept whatever (and just cut them off if I don't like 'em!)

Or can you name a hosta that is blue and green variegated and about 2-3' wide at maturity? I have a corner to fill and I want it to spill over the walkway a little bit. It will be in the same bed as Fothergilla Blue Shadow and a blue picea globosa so I really like the idea of pulling some of the blue through the area. But I don't want all blue. boring to me. The area gets morning sun til about 1. Hopefully the blue won't melt out. Isn't it heat that causes that more than sun?

Thanks, Dee. I couldn't figure out how to search with filtering on that website. I did find a couple potentials just by googling images of blue hosta Touch of Class is possible or Catherine. I think I need to see in person. I went through pics of ones I had at my old garden and found one too. I think it's going to be hard because I think they lose their blue as the summer progresses. There is a hosta specialty place about 45 minutes away. May be time for a field trip!

If you have somewhere that close it might indeed make more sense to go in person, especially if it is a real nursery with knowledgeable people.

Personally I find it very hard to make hosta choices lol. There are SO many wonderful ones to choose from, and honestly, the Hosta Library doesn't make it any easier!

I have a Regal Splendor, which is a sport of Krossa Regal (I have them together in a bed, and actually paired them before I knew RS was a sport of KR!). Regal Splendor is a variegated hosta but has blue leaves. It's a quite elegant hosta, imo, and has a nice vase shape to it.

    Good luck with your choice!

Thanks but these days a picture says 1000 words... That just gives me a list of names. I want to scroll filtered pics. I even asked chatgpt for help with this thinking that is a perfect AI task. Got basically same info.. find a name and look it up and evaluate pic. 1000+ times! No can do.

I just tried a google search for "hostas for sale", knowing that would definitely yield pictures. The first hit was just what I was looking for. Filters that output images! And that seller, NH Hostas. is coincidentally featured in HostaLibrary. Only problem is the universe of blue hosta on that website is limited to what they sell. However, June looks like a really good candidate. And June is readily available (well it used to be during my shopaholic days!)

    Thanks!

June is a great choice, I have several in different parts of my gardens. It is wonderfully sun tolerant, doesnt burn out in the sun. The more sun it get the more yellow the light parts get.

    June in alot of sun

    June in mostly shade.

Sherry, those pics are very helpful!!! The spot I want to put it in gets sun til about 12 or 1. WIll that much sun get me a yellow June? I really am not a fan of yellow. There's too much pink in the bed.

Not sure what you are looking for, but my best Hosta is 'June'. It's also thick leaved and the rabbits eat other hostas and only one year did they resort to chewing on June.

pm, how much sun does your June get and does it stay nearly blue? Good to hear about rabbits. I have 'em!!

The first picture of my June gets about five hours of sun. The second June gets filtered sunlight maybe an hour of direct sun.

Wendy, Here is a photo of my 'June' this week. It's just unfurled. And in comparision to other hostas in the yard, it is untouched by the rabbits. This location maybe has 2-3hrs of sun in the morning tops. And that's the color.

Of course the leaves get larger than this. It's just opening. Also it's a little sparse in the center so probably needs dividing.
