Off centred stove and range hood

last month

Looking for design ideas in order to deal with off centred range hood. I have more space on the left side of the range hood than the right side … thinking to add small shelves to the left side (for oil, spices etc ..) to balance the overall appearance. Does anyone have pics of similar design suggestions??? Thanks

The vent duct doesn't appear centered on the range or cooktop. Have you considered that in the selection of the range hood?

Is that a gas pipe? There's no visible 240 volt outlet for an electric range or cooktop (but maybe it's in the adjacent cabinet).

Can you add another picture backed up or with your phone sideways?

Who designed the space ? If you oops if a designer call them back to fix it. The hood is wrong , the cabinet was wrong or the layout was wrong. Oils and psices do not belong in the heat from a range Somebody messed up and now is the time to fix it.

The hood must be centered over the burners, even if the cabinetry is off-side.

Can you move the vent lower on the wall to allow for a downdraft stove? If so, no hood is required.

Then fill the off-side look with shelving.

What type of vent hood are you considering? Chimney style?

How much space is it that you're considering shelves for? Honestly, that's the worst place to put open shelves b/c of the potential for "gunk" collecting on the shelves and the items on them.

Is it possible to have your KD order a narrow cabinet to fill the space?

Or, replace the upper corner cabinet on the left with an Easy Reach with a longer side on the range side. (It would also update that cabinet from the less desirable diagonal cabinet.)

Regardless, depending on how much the duct is off center from the range, you may have to open the wall to move it so it works with the hood.

If you need to open up the wall, maybe get an under-cabinet hood instead? It might make things easier.

Talk with your KD and Contractor about all of this. They may have additional ideas.

I would also note that having just a diagonal corner cabinet there with no additional cabinets on the right side looks very "off". I don't think open shelves there will make it look "right".

Thanks, everyone. I'll modify/switch the left cabinet and was able to move the chimney to centre the rangehood.

Given such as small vent duct, the flow rate will be limited, which means that the hood itself will need to be at the low end of distances over the cooktop. Further, energetic cooking may need to be performed on only the rear burners because the flow rate won't support a large area hood entry aperture.

Downdraft schemes can remove (over time) low velocity odor sources, but will not capture and contain energetic cooking plumes. Search for the endless commentary on this subject in the Appliance forum.
