Frame TV, ottoman, something linen, secondhand wood, something weird :)

    All good advice!

I love her! I follow her on IG.

And I have all 5 of those things 😎

Fun to watch. Thanks for sharing. I'm always up for a new voice on decor.

Great advice - I need to find something a little weird to add to my living room!

Nice ideas, especially old wood, but I'm not a fan of boxing myself in to "5 things to ALWAYS do in a room." Having to have something quirky/weird can look contrived, like you're trying too hard. And in many rooms, the TV IS the main event, and the framed picture would never be shown.

Just do you, or your clients.

I am sure she does not box herself in; I'd imagine it is more of a marketing gimmick for views to make the content catch you eye.

Having to have something quirky/weird can look contrived, like you're trying too hard, I'd look at it more like "don't think everything has to match necessarily"

And in many rooms, the TV IS the main event, and the framed picture would never be shown, Maybe, though with so many people watch on their own screens, alas, that has really changed. In any event they are not that expensive and at least you have the choice then of what is on it.

Well I fail — no TV at all.

But I do have original artwork, and lots of greenery. Old wood too. Probably a linen pillow, or at least linen adjacent, to offset the crewel embroidery, kilim, and velvet pillows. Not sure what quirky is in this context - how about vintage silver (plate) and pewter candlesticks, and vintage (aka dented with patina) copper and brass cache pots for plants.

A book club friend is an artist and has an amazing variety of craft pieces and artwork. When the group of us assembled at her home recently we all thought there was an interesting new painting or photo over her television. It was the TV. I was surprised how good it looked.

Some types of art look better for frame TVs than others. I also like the subtle trick of installing a picture light over it!

    Lots of old wood here.

TV sitting on 1977 Lincoln Continental length antique buffet with lots of art on wall behind it (not behind TV). If it were on the wall, I’d do the TV art thing for sure.

A couple of small ottomans in various rooms. I love them, they’re so versatile.

I already forgot what the other two things were. I might have them, or not, or once had them, or not, or might have them in the future, or not.

I didn’t watch all of the second video, but did see the amusing plant part. I’m in the process of culling plants in my house, so no. My DD, though, would totally agree with her (she’s been the recipient of my plants).

@Jilly - I find a reasonable sized black TV sitting on a piece of medium height furniture so much less offensive than a black TV mounted on the wall.

LOL! I have offensive black tvs mounted in various rooms in my house. I like them all, balanced by other black items like a black leather couch, etc.

The only part of her advise I would follow is the end result, the over all umbrella advise of making your house YOUR home. All the cookie cutter run to the latest decor fad I read pushed on the decorating threads here makes me yawn. Her ideas are refreshing to hear for advise on how can I make this my space and not HGTVs. If I painted everydoor in my home a color it would look like a circus tent and so would yours.

Agree that the whole thing is a marketing ploy to get you to subscribe. Not interested.

3/5 for me. We have not lived with a TV that shows since the early '80s until 5yr ago. Honestly, it does not bother me like I thought it would. It is set back in a niche, slim frame. DH always has it on when he's in the room.

I discoverd Julie Jones Design on IG. I really enjoy her posts, especially her floor plan redesigns she does for clients. They just purchased a MCM home and are remodeling for their family, including four sons.
