If mallow becomes leggy you can cut it back pretty hard this time of year to maintain it’s compact shape. In my experience, poppies ( at least Ca poppies ) reseed themselves , I let the flower become a seed pod, some harvest those seeds, I don’t, just cut the plants down to the ground after they start looking scraggly. BTW, not an expert, just my experience.

Agree with K Laurence. If a plant is not making me happy, I remove it and get another that will, even if it is the same plant.

Are the plants getting water and fertilizer? It does not look damp there but powdery mildew destroyed my California poppies in pots last year.

The poppies in wild areas were just about gone after a hot dry March this year but with a lot of rain this April they are in full bloom again now.
